In 1941, Mrs Mabel Tabor donated one canary bird per capita for use by the Greenfield Public Library during its First Year Anniversary Campaigns program (later renamed "First Book Drive"). In 1951, Officer Norman Eisner presented Chief Royce Herron with a service revolver as part of their department's 75th anniversary celebration celebrations. Two years later, Lieutenant Joseph Kapp donated three badges - one for Patrolman and two for Sergeants - along with ten revolvers and twenty-four cartridges each to help celebrate officer retirements in 1957 and 1959 respectively (the latter being Congratulations On Your Successful Retirement!). In 1969, Sgt Dave Hageman contributed four shotguns - two Model 1895s and two model 1871s - along with thirty rounds each for use by Township Volunteer Firemen throughout their Fourth Annual Shotgun Balloons Festival! In 1978, Mrs Rena Heineman donated an open box filled with memorabilia including uniforms worn by local law enforcement officers during World War II (a 1946 issue "New York Times" Law Enforcement History article about this event is available online). Greenfield, Indiana is a town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 9,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute metropolitan area. Greenfield was founded in 1824 as a small village on the east side of what is now Terre Haute Township. The township was organized in 1837 and Greenfield became a town in 1851. The name "Greenfield" is derived from the Indian word "kreen," meaning "green." The climate in Greenfield varies depending on location: On the north side it has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate; on the south side it has a cool-winter subtropical climate. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Greenfield has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated Cfa on maps. According to legend, when General Anthony Wayne marched his army into central Indiana during the American Revolution he ordered his Hessian mercenary troops not to fire upon any resident farmers or civilians without his express permission – this was done so that they could loot and pillage without fear of retribution from ordinary citizens. So began what would become one of America's most famous traditions: General Wayne's green fields policy. Today many people believe thatGeneral Wayne actually did order his troops not to fire upon any civilian targets (or at least anyone who didn't look like they were hostile), but this story may have been apocryphal because no one knows for sure for sure which general actually gave such an order and there are several other legends about how General Wayne's army looted central Indiana (e.g., one says that he looted almost every house in town). Regardless, General Anthony Wayne's green fields policy helped make GREENFIELD an important center for trade and commerce throughout much of 19th century central Indiana; indeed, many early industries were based here including tanning leather, manufacturing flourishes such as buttons and shoestrings etc., wagonmaking etc., as well as numerous small businesses that continued until after World War II because there weren't any big companies downtown yet! Greenfield, Indiana is a town in and the county seat of Butler County,Indiana, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1827 by Nicholas Greenfield and others. The community's name comes from the nearby river that flows through it. Greenfield was platted on May 14, 1827 by Nicholas Greenfield and others with deeds to the land given to them by James Caldwell. At first, only a small part of what is now Butler County was within Greenfield Township; but as more settlers arrived, they began to subdivide and add other townships to their entity. In 1836 Greenfield had a post office which served all of Butler County. In 1840, an act passed by the state legislature designated Butler County as its official county seat. The first school in town was built in 1828-29 on the east side of present day State Road 11 near where Union Baptist Church still stands today. The school burned down in 1830 but was rebuilt under new leadership and reopened in October 1830 as "Nicholas Greenfeldt's Academy". The academy eventually became known as "Greenfeldt University" after its founder's death in 1865 though no lectures or courses were ever offered there until 1926 when it merged with nearby West Pointe College to form what is now Butler Community College (BCC). In 1799 John Marshall came into possession of some land west of what is now Germantown and north of present day North Meridian Street between Indian Hill Road (now US-24) and Providence Road (now Old Erie Rd.). He called this tract "Marshall's Purchase." This tract later became part of Ottawa Township when that township was organized November 15th, 1800 from parts of White Township and Clinton Townships southwardly for lack thereof being claimed by either township upon request from citizens thereof! On December 1st 1800 Ottawa Township organized as Defiance Township! What follows are some interesting facts about this early settler & his colony… he left behind 4 children who survived infancy: John Marshall Jr., Josephine Marshal (married to Nicholas Hovey), Andrew Marshall Jr., & Martha Marsh! They all went off into business & prospered like their father had before them! Allan Jarrell also settled on this property along with his wife Catherine Lawless soon afterwards – they named their settlement “Jarrell’s Townsite” after Allan’s older brother Jonathan who had preceded them across the border at Shawnee Mission Kansas Territory during that time period. Even though much larger than any village located at this spot today due largely to original growth associated with military recruiting operations conducted adjacent thereto during World War II (& ensuing suburban sprawl), “Jarrell’s Townsite” remains one of Indianapolis’ most popular tourist destinations today even accounting for increased visitation rates adjacent thereto resulting from recent construction activities taking place within its boundaries including both residential developments underway presently & future plans for yet another+ large commercial center/ entertainment complex/variety retail outlets currently scheduled for development adjacent thereto should those plans be realized which would virtually doubling current area size!!! Greenfield was founded in 1812 by Simon Greenfield and his wife, Mary. The village grew rapidly due to its location on the then-new Erie Canal. In 1836, Greenfield became an incorporated city. The population reached 3,000 in 1860 and 5,000 in 1880. By 1920, the population had grown to 12,500. during World War II, Greenfield was home to a large munitions plant that produced munitions for the war effort
