Greensburg, Indiana is a small town in Butler County, Indiana. The population was 1,869 at the 2000 census. The town center is located in the village of Greensburg. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Greensburg was Abram Whetstone, who arrived in 1814. He and his family built a log cabin on the site that still stands today. In 1865, General Ulysses S Grant visited Greensburg and visited the home of Abram's grandson John Whetstone to get ideas for developing the area around Greensburg into what it is today. John Whetstone donated land to form Greenfield Cemetery which now includes more than 1,000 gravesites dating back to 1864. In 1905, Jens Rasmussen started a grocery store in Greenfield Village which became known as Rasmussen’s Grocery Store until it closed its doors in 1984. Today there are several restaurant options within walking distance of Greenfield Village including Jack & Benny’s Tavern & Grille and Miller’s Pizza Place.. A branch of The Kroger Company opened up in Greensburg by Roy Crouch on December 6th1966 and remains open today as Kroger MarketPlace - one of two anchor stores for the new $22 million shopping center being built just north of downtown with over 100 stores including Home Depot and Lowe’s

Greensburg is a town in and the county seat of Green County, Indiana, United States. The population was 5,459 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first European to visit Greensburg was Spanish explorer Juan de la Cosa on July 15, 1503, during his expedition against the Algonquian people. He named it "Misión de San Francisco" (Mission of Saint Francis). A log cabin was built there in 1814 by Captain John Silliphant and his wife Mary Ann Horsfall. In 1815 Isaac Winchester arrived from Kentucky with troops under General Andrew Jackson to fight Indian Wars near present-day Greensburg. Winchester offered land for a courthouse and school in Greensburg. On December 12, 1816, President James K. Polk made Greenville focal point of Ulysses S. Grant's " Open Door Policy". In 1830 David Dixon founded Dixon & Co., one of the earliest American express companies. In 1840 he opened an agency at what is now downtown Greensburg for D&C Land Company buyers looking to purchase prairies east of Danville in what is now Noble Township and north of Ionia Township in Green County In 1851 Greenville became an independent city when it merged with Corydon and other nearby townships into that entity On January 1, 1865, due to Indianola's gold discovery at Findlay Lake just west of present-day Red Bank Road on the grounds around what is now known as Discovery Place (the former location of Herald College), the town name changed from Corydon to Greensburg effective February 1st In 1871–72 two years after Ohio became a state—and because most Greenwood counties were still part of Indiana—Greensburg joined this newly created state as well Thanks largely to advances in agriculture brought about by railroads throughout central Indiana—greensburgerization began which included many new homes being built along these lines—-by 1907 more than half a million dollars had been invested in greensburgh businesses alone Grosse Pointe Farms annexed neighboring Uniontown annexation on November 3rd 1909 making that township also part of Greensburgh
