Greenwood is a town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,565 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is part of the Liberty Township Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Greenwood was John Toombs, who arrived in 1812. The earliest white businesses in Greenwood were a store and post office. A sawmill and grist mill were built around 1830 by Cornelius Crouch and others. In 1857, James Hinchman founded the Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 633 with help from his father-in-law, Daniel Moultrie Fenton. In 1840, Indian Territory was organized as Indiana Territory and Greenwood became one of its first townships. By 1847, Greenwood had a population of 350 inhabitants; it grew to 1,000 by 1860 when the railroad reached it. In 1870, when Indiana became an state, Greenwood became one of its first townships; it remained so until 1907 when it lost its township status (it regained this status after becoming a village). In 1919–1920 the city of Indianapolis moved into what is now the eastern edge of Parkersburg Township on land that had been given to Greenwood for development as parkland; this caused some residents to leave their homes for fear they would be displaced too if Parkersburg moved out. After years of discussion about whether or not to move forward with development on what was now rural land within Parkersburg Township—heading up through then-Township President David Banks—the decision was made to keep both properties together as parkland while also considering moving away from downtown Indianapolis altogether and developing nearer Memorial Stadium on State Road 487 (now I-465). This plan eventually came to fruition during the late 1990s when Cityscape developers bought both properties from Bank's successor as Township President Russell Atkins and began developing them into what is now known as "Greenwood Village", consisting primarily of single-family homes along with retail shops and restaurants serving area residents since 2004 (though Parksburg Township still has a small amount commercial activity). Since then there have been numerous expansions including: GreenWood Place which includes an indoor/outdoor waterpark/spa/golf course; GreenWood Town Center which includes 7 stores including two hypermarkets (JCPenney & Macy’s); Meadowood Shopping Center which contains more than 150 stores across several different brands including Sears & JCPenney; Kerridge Forest which contains over 100 acres of forested terrain complete with hiking trails; Brownstown Woods featuring 12 miles of hiking trails through forested terrain reaching down into Lake Michigan; Willowbrook Golf Course which features 5 golf courses totaling 9 holes covering all types of weather conditions Additionally there are many smaller projects such as: An outdoor ice rink called "The Rink" located east side lot #3 near intersectionof Main Street & US Highway 362nd floor .
