The Hobart Air Force Base is home to the United States Air Force's Seventh Fighter Wing. The wing was founded in 1937 and is one of the last active duty USAF wings in Indiana. The wing employs more than 7,000 people and flies more than 2,500 aircraft. It is responsible for providing air defense against threats from worldwide. In 1945, when the United States went into World War II, Hobart AFB was one of the first American military installations to be activated. With its new facilities, Hobart AFB quickly became a major center for fighter training and operations during the war years. In 1948, the wing's predecessor unit-the 1st Fighter Squadron-was disbanded and reactivated at Fargo AFB as the 4th Fighter Squadron under command of Eighth Air Force commander LtGen Curtis LeMay. Hobart AFB continued to play an important role in USAF activity throughout the Cold War Years with its numerous squadrons flying combat missions over Korea, Vietnam and other areas of conflict. During this time period, it also served as a primary hub for NATO fighter jets operation within Southeast Asia. In 1991, after nearly 50 years of service as an active duty USAF base in Indiana, Hobart AFB was closed due to budget cuts by then-President George H W Bush's Administration - an action that caused significant uproar among many residents in town who saw their facility get significantly smaller while other troops were stationed elsewhere on US soil. The closure left many employees out of work and triggered a local strike by several hundred workers that lasted until late May 1992 before being resolved through mediation by representatives from both sides involved in American Federation of Teachers Local 812 (AFT locals 812 & 9). The closure had a profound impact on hobART community members who felt they were forgotten amidst all of the heated rhetoric surrounding national security decisions made during that particular year; it also impacted overall USAAF activity south of Interstate 70 because muchofthe materiel housed at Hobart AFB was mothballed or sold off once it came clear that funding would not be available to keep it open any longer . Upon reopening 15 months later following refurbishment/ modernization efforts led by First Lieutenant Gen David Buss (retired) & Colonel John Burton (USA),[1] today’s Seventh Fighter Wing has again become an important part of easternIndiana’s air force history with its cadre depleting only recently from deployments around Afghanistan – making useofCockpit SimulatorFlight Training which helped young pilots learn howto fly like real world fighters."

It was thanks to Lockheed Aircraft that we were able to win two major wars whileusing just five planes!

Hobart, Indiana is a small town in the northern most corner of Indiana. It has been mentioned as well as The ford of Hyperion and The home of the Indianapolis Colts. The population was 5,623 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Hobart was Robt. Denny who built a cabin on a hill overlooking what is now known as the downtown core in 1837. The first store opened in 1847 and by 1860 there were six stores and two hotels in town. A post office was established here in 1871, but it closed several years later due to lack of business interest or administrative support from the other towns within the Evansville metropolitan area. In 1909, Hobart became one of three communities within an eight-town boundaries created to provide more space for people working within Evansville's larger economy after automobiles had become popular amongIndiana residents commuting to jobs outside of their cities or towns. This experiment proved unsuccessful and all eight towns dissolved five years later when annexation into larger municipalities failed to materialize with enough businesses wanting to move to new locations given that their former community members still controlled most of the land within their original boundaries which made for difficult redevelopment efforts even if all 8 villages had been merged into one municipality (unlikely given that many businesses would have preferred independence). Despite this short-lived experiment, Hobart remains a local landmark today with its wide variety of commerce and services available including restaurants, bars, grocery stores, antique shops and more than half a dozen banks and thrifts located within walking distance from downtown squrm . There are also several golf courses located nearby making Hobart an attractive place for tourists looking for a holiday getaway or an overnight stay while visiting easternIndiana .
Hobart was founded in 1824 by Capt. John J. Hobart and his men as a small trading post on the East Side of the Illinois River. The post served as a stop on the road between Fort Wayne, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. In 1834, Hobart became a town and was named after John J. Hobart, its first mayor. In 1846, Hobart was renamed Indianapolis after General Andrew Jackson's victory in the Battle of New Orleans and it served as the capital of Indiana from 1847 to 1865.
