The coffee industry in Kokomo, Indiana began developing in the early 1800s. The first coffee plantation was established by Daniel Boone in 1795. By 1825, the area had become a major center for coffee production and trade. The first commercial espresso machine was invented in 1895 by Italian immigrant Giovanni de Stefano. Kokomo became an important node of the caffeine trade during World War II because of its strategic location at the intersection of several Interstate highways. The population of Kokomo increased from around 2,000 to over 10,000 during this time. In recent years, however, Kokomo's economy has been greatly influenced by its proximity to Chicago and other metropolitan areas. Coffee became popularized across America in the mid-19th century as a result of innovations developed by Frenchmen named Joseph Fraiser and Pierre-Jacques Conte. These engineers improved upon earlier methods for roasting beans and brewing coffee that were used on small farms throughout Europe. By 1847,Fraiser had started a large coffee company that would become one of the most iconic brands in American history. Over time, numerous other companies followed Fraiser's lead and built successful empires within the coffee industry. 1) Dutch Coffee: This company was founded in 1668 by Jan van der Heyden as part of an effort to move westward along newly acquired Dutch soil with new crops and new ideas about farming methodsologies. They introduced drip irrigation systems which allowed them to grow more beans per acre than their European counterparts while also producing lower quality products due to their lack of experience with modern technology (they only achieved popularity after they switched to instantiation). 2) Swiss Coffee: After tasting some high altitude Ethiopian Berber tea while touring Zürich in 1902, Swiss expatriates began importing fresh roasted Afro-Swiss coffees from these regions as early as 1903 (interest spread rapidly through Switzerland among urbanites who enjoyed "the best food possible"). This trend continued until World War I when exports stopped due to military restrictions placed on Swiss coffees by Germany. 3) Turkish Coffee: At this point we reach our second milestone – Turkish Coffee began being exported into North America starting from New York City around 1915 under license from Caffè Orientale du Turquie (now known as Starbucks). 4) Indonesian Coffee: Indonesia became a major region for coffee production following independence from Holland in 1949 which led to an increase in smuggling activities associated with this new market demand for higher quality beans not available domestically (this period is also noted for pioneer efforts such as Blue Bottle Coffee Company). 5) Guatemalan Coffee: Guatemala reached its peak production level between 1960 - 1970 but subsequently experienced a decline due primarily to environmental factors including deforestation caused by agricultural expansionism; loss of crop value due to pests & diseases; etc.). 6) Brazilian Red Beans/Raspados: Brazil's love affair with red beans goes back centuries! Beginning around 1700 when Portuguese sailors discovered Native American processing techniques for growing black beans – they soon adapted these practices back home where they started trading goods like cocoa powder & sugarcane products back East… eventually leading directly to Brazil’s current passion (& investment!) for red beans!

Kokomo, Indiana was first settled in 1853 by the Kosciusko family. The town originally consisted of a few log cabins and a mill. In 1875, the town became the capital of Indiana. Kokomo was renamed to its current name in 1907 after General George Armstrong Custer. The Kokomo Manufacturing Company was founded in 1898 and continued to operate until 1978 when it merged with other manufacturing companies to form the Dow Chemical Company.

The current mayor of Kokomo is Rick Henson and the Council members are Gary Kapp (Council Member 2nd Ward), Don Kuhlman (Council Member 3rd Ward), Barry Weiser (Council Member 4th Ward), and Kathy Hebda (Council Member 5th Ward). The village had an income for 2009 of $4 million dollars with expenditures totaling $3 million dollars

Kokomo, Indiana is a small town located in northwestern Indiana. The community was founded in 1848 by the merger of two smaller villages, Kokomo and Griggs. Kokomo has been a thriving community for over 130 years, and its history can be traced back to when it was known as the "Town of Kokomo." The first settlers to arrive in what is now Kokomo were farmers who arrived from Illinois in 1836. By 1840, there were twenty-four families living in the village. The population grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to waves of immigration from all over Europe. In 1824, traders working on the Great Lakes reached Kokomo and began trading goods with local Native Americans. This led to new economic opportunities for the townspeople and helped drive growth during this time period. In 1847, Colonel John Sibley established a military post at Griggs Creek which served as an important center for trade on the Lower Michigan River Valley. This new development helped growthe Economy of Kokomo by providing jobs for locals and opening up new trade routes between east and west Michigan. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Kokomo was one of several communities along the UpperMichigan River Valley that sided with President Lincoln against Confederate forces. After Union soldiers burned down parts of nearby Fort Scott on April 14th 1863, many residents fled into neighboring towns such as Terre Haute or Muncie while their homes were destroyed or looted. 1/3 of all male citizens age 25 or older died during 1861-1865 due to causes such as disease, combat or starvation caused by war efforts; this compares favorably with rates experienced by other Midwest cities such as Chicago or Milwaukee where only 1/5th mortality rate occurred from 1861- 1865
Kokomo was founded in 1847 by a group of settlers from the east. The town was named for General Anthony Kokomo, an American Revolutionary War hero and officer. The first post office was established in 1848, and the first store opened in 1850. Kokomo quickly became a small farming community with few industry options. However, it did experience some growth during the late 1800s due to its location near the crossroads of two major wagon roads. In 1907, Kokomo amalgamated with neighboring towns of Westville and New Albany to form the city of Kokomo.
