Lawrence, Indiana is a town in Vigo County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. Lawrence is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become Lawrence were Methodists who came overland from Kentucky in 1839. A post office called Lawrence was established in 1842, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. The community took its name from General James A. Lawrence who fought for the United States during the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of California. In 1852, the Illinois Central Railroad built a line through Vigo County from Terre Haute to Lafayette and then on to Indianapolis; this allowed for more commerce to come into the town which grew rapidly with new businesses being opened such as stores, breweries, hotels and churches. In 1854, General John Custer's 7th Cavalry Regiment arrived atLawrence for their winter encampment; this event is now commemorated by a statue located near Main Street that bears the inscription "7th Cavalry Regiment - Ulysses S Grant's Headquarters." The town reached its peak population size around 1870 when it had an estimated 200 residents and became an important business center for surrounding counties; however by 1900 only 60 residents remained while neighboring towns experienced rapid growth including Terre Haute which increased its population from 10 to 100 people within 5 years. During World War I (1914-18), Lawrence served as a supply depot for troops stationed along the Michigan border; after hostilities ended the depot closed but many of the supplies used by troops still remain today at various locations throughout Indiana including Fort Wayne (now part of Hammond), Visalia and Lawerence Village under storagewy Agreement between US Army Corps of Engineersand localities dated September 20th 1959 Lawrence has seen periodic revitalization since 1999 with several small businesses opening up along Main Street such as Allstate Insurance Company (founded 1919) followed by Lighthouse Pizza(1993), Subway sandwich shop(1996), KFC restaurant(1997) before becoming home to several bars/pubs including Pabst Blue Ribbon brewery(2006) before finally reaching its current state with several new restaurants taking shape such as Chili’s Grill & Bar(2007) and Red Lobster seafood restaurant(2009).

Lawrence, Indiana is a small town in Monmouth County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,744 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area and is located on the eastern edge of the county. The town was founded in 1800 by John Lawrence and his wife Rebecca with the help of Colonel George Hilton. The first store was built on what is now Main Street in 1802. By 1830, Lawrence had a school and Presbyterian church. In 1854, Lawrence voted to become a city and incorporation took place that year. In 1861-1862, during the American Civil War, Lawrence furnished guns to various Union forces as they fought against Confederate forces. Lawrence experienced economic prosperity beginning in the 1920s when industries such as car manufacturing began to arrive in town; however, this prosperity ended after World War II when jobs moved away because of production changes at Purdue University's aluminum plant in nearby Bloomington. The city has seen sporadic growth since then due to its location within walking distance of many businesses and schools as well as its easy access to Interstate 65 which provides transportation options for both locals and visitors alike. Today much of what once made up Lawrence's economy are found elsewhere within Monmouth County or just outside its borders; however, some remnants of these earlier industries still exist including two restaurants known for their Italian dishes: "Poppo" (founded 1971) and "Ristorante Bianco" (established 1969). These two establishments continue to serve food from local ingredients even though their menus have changed little over time - an indication that it still remains an important part of local cuisine that draws people from all overMonmouth County each month!
