The Muncie Aero Club was founded on May 11, 1928 by Captain H. W. Dutton and First Lieutenant J. R. Caldwell as the Air Force Aeronautical Division of the American Legion Auxiliary in Muncie, Indiana. On November 4, 1941 General George C. Marshall appointed Colonel Arthur Teller USAAF Commander-in-Chief of all American forces in Europe and Southern Asia and established the Air Forces European Command (AEU) with Headquarters at RAF Bader Field, Germany. The AEU was renamed Allied Forces Europe in December 1944 when Allied Control Authority for the Western Pacific was created under General Dwight Eisenhower as Supreme Commander of United States Armed Forces in World War II. In 1946 AFE became Continental Air Command (ConAC). ConAC was redesignated United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) on June 15, 1949 when the USAF assumed jurisdiction over all air forces within the new Department of Defense structure following activation of NATO's military command structure known as NATO Hermann Göring Organization pursuant to Executive Order No. 9308 which merged commands formerly operated by V Corps and I Corps headquarters into one organization calledArmyAir Force (USAFE). On September 18, 1952 General Curtis LeMay announced his plans to move fighter aircraft from RAF Mascot to have a single squadron each at RAF Fairford and RAF North Weald during an exercise codenamed "Frosty" which took place at those two bases between October 7-11 1952 One major change that occurred during this time period was that Republic F-84 Thunderjet fighters were replaced by McDonnell Douglas Skyraiders starting with phase III models beginning serial number 10314 on October 22nd, 1952 becoming operational on November 1st followed by phase IV models starting serial number 10341 on November 16th In 1954 McDonnell Douglas began production of their own jet fighter designs dubbed "Douglas-Hawker Hunter" which would become operational beginning with serial numbers DA5C/D6K on July 1st 1954 becoming operational on October 25th On July 1st 1955 Republic F-104G Starfighters were first used in battle against Iraqi targets over Kuwait following Operation Desert Storm

Muncie was founded in 1824 by Daniel Muncie and his brother David. The city was named for Daniel Muncie, an early settler who donated land to the city. In 1851, the first courthouse in the city was built. In 1865, the Indiana statehood referendum resulted in a victory for the United States over Great Britain. As a result of this vote, Muncie became one of the original 27 cities in Indiana. The downtown area of Muncie is home to many businesses and restaurants including Macy’s department store and several other large retailers. The Mohawk Creek tributary that forms Muncie’s eastern border is also home to two reservoirs used for irrigation purposes: One at Jefferson County Park and another at Pritchard Reservoir. Additionally, there are several small shopping malls located within or surrounding munci-city limits as well as a few professional sports teams including the Indianapolis Colts and Indianapolis Pacers. The population of munci-city grew rapidly during both World Wars due to military recruitment efforts from nearby Fort Wayne. Today, munci-city has a population of over 300,000 people with 150 miles (240 km) of main arterial roads and 2 million square feet (120 hectares) of commercial acreage statewide
