The store was soon successful and Wagoner began buying and selling guns for customers who would come from all over the state to buy them. In 1907, Wagoner married Emma Cavanaugh and the couple purchased the old post office building on South Main Street where they continued to operate their store until 1949 when they sold it to Julius Kappelbach. The store operated as a gunsmiths until it closed its doors in 1984. The most famous customer of the old Kappelbach Store was Joe Louis who frequented the store during his early career as a boxer. After he won his first world title in 1933, he stopped by the store several times to purchase firearms before traveling to different states to compete. In addition to Joe Louis, other famous customers of the store include Boxer Jack Dempsey, Muhammad Ali, Dick Tracy and Clint Eastwood. Today, there is an open-air museum located on South Main Street that celebrates both Wagoner'sstore days as well as Indiana's Gun History Museum which is dedicated specifically to collecting pistols and revolvers from across Indiana dating back to 1892!
