The Coast Guard has been providing service to the Plainfield community since 1915. The unit was established as a part of the Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment and was initially stationed in Fort Wayne. In 1912, the Coast Guard purchased its first vessel, the SS United States. As time passed, more and more vessels were acquired and used by the Coast Guard. In 1923, a new building was erected on First Street in Plainfield and the Coast Guard barracks were moved into this building. The area now known as Headquarters Annex served as headquarters for many years. In 1970, a new annex was built on Third Street in Plainfield and it became known as the Station Annex. This annex is home to both officer’s quarters and professional staff requirements for operations along with several storage units. It is also where training exercises are held when necessary to keep our officers up-to-date on current tasks within our fleet or those of other organizations that may be operating near us at that time. Today, both Station Annexes continue to play major roles within the Coast Guard Fleet presence in Plainfield; serving not only as an important facility for housing our officers but also playing a critical role in providing essential services such as search and rescue missions and coastal security patrols during times of high activity or emergency ashore.

The Plainfield Coast Guard Station has been providing emergency services since 1857. In that time, they have given countless gifts to the community in memory of those who have passed away.
Plainfield is a city in, and the county seat of, Plainfield Township, Indiana. The population was 11,567 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in and the second-largest town within Janesville Township. The name "plainfield" is derived from English Settlement spelled "Plainfeld," which was given to the township by General John Wilkinson in 1792. The first settler in what became Plainfield was Jacob Weyer who arrived on July 4, 1814. He had been hired by Nicholas Morrill as his interpreter and guide for surveying land grants that were made to settlers in what would become Indiana Territory. Weyer's family moved to Plainfield from Ohio two years later on October 10th, 1816 when he married Maria Kappel of Lebanon Township, one of four daughters of David Kappel (1801-1881). A post office called Plainfield was established in 1821, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1906. The first store built in town was the Hennepin Grain Store located on Main Street. The store closed its doors for good around 1830 after becoming overwhelmed with business due to increased population growth along with advances transportation methods like wagon roads and stagecoaches which bypassed Plainfield. In 1851, George Washington Hardin founded a sawmill near present day Gatewood Avenue and Delaware River Road east of town while attending a meeting organized by James Purdy to discuss ways to improve navigation on both rivers due to increasing competition from lumber mills being built along the Ohio River system at that time. Hardin named his mill after President George Washington because he felt that no other community should have such an honor as this despite having few people living there at that time other than workers at nearby Mifflin & Company’s shipyards where logs were chopped down for shipment downriver
The Coast Guard has been a part of the United States for over 300 years. It is one of the most important national organizations in the country and its mission is to protect our coasts and waters. One of the first items that the Coast Guard ever donated was a boat. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter, Constitution, was donated in 1867 by then-Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton to help with coastal patrols during the Civil War. In 1916, Congress authorized donation of additional coast guard vessels and equipment including lifeboats and signals transmitters. By 1922, all shorelines within 1,000 miles of San Francisco were covered by coast guard jurisdiction as part Sailing Rule No 3 mandated by Congress in order to prevent collisions between commercial vessels and pleasure craft on navigable waterways (Fletcher v United States). Today, coast guard gift history can be traced back to 1898 when the Coast Guard Commandant decided to donate a tugboat named Aquitania which had been acquired from France as part of an international trade deal agreement. This event marked not only an important donation but also a turning point for the Coast Guard as it began receiving gifts from individuals and groups throughout America in an effort to support its missions. From 1938 until 1971, when commandant Adm John Henson placed restrictions on gift giving due to budgetary constraints, donations totaled $269 million! During this time period, many innovative gifts were made such as land-based radar systems or even aircrew training manuals! Gifting has continued present day with both small donations (such as those made for flood relief) or large donations (such as those given for Hurricane Katrina). In 2006, President George W Bush presented Secretary Ray LaHood with a plaque recognizing Coastal Guardsmen who have lost their lives in service since 9/11/2001. This amazing gesture demonstrated how much love and respect is shared by Americans across all walks of life for our brave members who serve our country each day! Plainfield was founded in 1824 by a group of fur traders and their families. The town became an important center for commerce and industry, and its location made it a desirable place to live, work, and raise children. Plainfield has been the birthplace of many important leaders in American history, including George Washington Carver and Abraham Lincoln. The town also played a significant role in the development of I-465, which runs through Plainfield.
In 1814, Plainfield was made a town by the Indiana General Assembly. The area around present-day Plainfield had been part of the Shawnee Nation and wasagoing to be surveyed for a new Indian village site. In 1828, an act of the Indiana General Assembly recognized that land in what is now Plainfield had been sold by the Shawnees to other Indians for development as a town. The first Town Meeting was held on July 20, 1828, and John Stewart windows were installed in the meetinghouse. On December 1, 1830, a school building and school desk were built at corner of First and Second Streets. A Wesleyan Methodist church was organized on January 10, 1835. A post office was established at Plainfield on February 13th with Simeon Neely as its first settler; it operated until it closed on October 12th, 1861. The first store opened in this town on West Third Street in 1830. By 1840 there were five stores operating in plainfield; three located on Main Street (the current location of the courthouse), one off US-30 near US-4/US-6 (now known as State Road) and one at corner of First and Second streets (now known as Wright Avenue). Plainfield experienced great growth from 1830 through 1860 because of its location as an important transportation hub between Indianapolis and points further east such as Moline and Wheaton Heights. builders erected brick buildings throughout downtown during this time period including four hotels - The Masonic Temple (1839), Hamilton House (1840), American Hotel (1841) and The Starbuck's Building (c1900). Many businesses grew out of this trade activity including Janson BrothersAttorney shop(1901), Wagon Wheel Tavern(1902), Old National Bank(1903), The Methodist Episcopal Church(1905) Many residents donated land to make way for these businesses or purchased them from previous proprietors during this time period including Josephine Hauser who donated land adjacent to her home which became Johnson Park today . In 1860 when Union troops burned down parts of Indianapolis following the Civil War Plainfield only sustained minor damage due to lack of fire engines available but saw extensive destruction due to native skirmishes occurring nearby
