On November 28, 1912, the 144th Infantry Regiment was organized and became part of the Plymouth National Guard. In 1923, the 146th Infantry Regiment was organized and became part of the Plymouth National Guard. In 1933, the 148th Infantry Regiment was organized and became part of the Plymouth National Guard. Plymouth is a small town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,297 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. Plymouth was founded in 1836 and named for Captain John Fitch's landing on Plymouth Rock, which he named after his hometown of Plymouth, England. The first post office in Plymouth was established in 1837. The name of the town changed several times until it was chosen as the name for the current community by a group of citizens in 1951. In 1978, Plympton-based company Monsanto Co., Incorporated moved its corporate headquarters from St Louis to what is now Plymouth and built an adjacent plant there to produce GM corn products under contract with Monsanto. Plymouth has two churches: First Baptist Church (founded 1865) and Christ Episcopal Cathedral (founded 1888). Both are affiliated with the Methodist church and have been used for worship since before those organizations were formed. There are also three schools: Pioneer High School (established 1906), Northwest Christian School (founded 1954), and Littlejohnsville Central High School (established 1970). A fire destroyed much of downtown Plymouth on July 10th 1966 but no one was hurt; this made it one of the few examples where firefighters responded to real-life emergencies while still wearing their uniforms
