After prohibition was lifted in 1933, Schererville continued to be an open-air market for agricultural products until 1985 when its boundaries were changed to make way for newresidential development on two sides of Depot Road. In 1990-1991, as part of the state government consolidation plan - which saw many small towns merged into larger ones - Scheimervillenumber four businesses that together formed "The Community Co-operative". This grocery store/cafeteria served as an important means of social interaction for many years before it closed down due to economic collapse in 2009.
