The United States Air Force was founded on September 16, 1947 by President Harry S. Truman with the goal of providing strategic deterrence against attack from abroad. The USAF has since fought in every world conflict and is one of the most powerful militaries in the world. The Stealth Bomber is the air force's primarystay and has been a mainstay of US airpower for over 50 years. The USAF also maintains an extensive fleet of helicopters which play a vital role in many military operations around the world. Airforce gift history begins with World War II when American fighter pilots were sent to fight in Europe as part of Allied forces. One such pilot, Chuck Yeager, flew his first combat mission over Germany on May 8th, 1945. By 1946, Yeager had become one of America's top ace pilots and led America into victory in World War II. In 1948, Yeager was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions during Operation Overlord (the Normandy landings). postwar gifts During this time period, many items were given to members of the USAF through donations or gifts from civilians and businesses alike. Some examples include; planes such as P-38 Lightning fighters and F-86 Sabre jets; tanks like M113A1 armored personnel carriers; radios such as R-4350G "Magic Carpet" receivers; watches; cigars; cigarettes; chocolate bars; books etc.; all donated or given out free to Air Force personnel at various points throughout their careers. Post-WWII gifts continued through both Korea and Vietnam where American servicemen helped lead those wars effort[1]. Many items that were gifted during these wars include Humvees (which became standard equipment with US troops deployed), rifles, swords and other war supplies as well as vehicles like MiG Alley Jets which could fly at high speeds while dodging ground fire[2]. Finally, after more than 50 years of service being bestowed upon members of the USAF by citizens and businesses alike,[3], it is important to remember that not all gifts are positive - some items have been seen as detrimental to military readiness including reductions in troop numbers or reversals in policymaking[4]. This paper will explore how Airforce gift history has evolved over time culminating with a look at two recent incidents that have raised concerns about military gift giving practices within South Bend community.[5] In July 2017, South Bend Community College employee Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini was caught on camera giving a $100 donation to then-Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence's campaign committee via her personal vehicle[6]. Just two weeks later on August 2nd 2017 an incident occurred when three female cadets from Notre Dame University's flying academy were observed taking pictures inside an unarmed A-10 Thunderbolt III aircraft belonging to local Air National Guard unit stationed near Mishawaka Airport[7]. These typeof incidents raise questions about how Gifts may be influencing Military Policymaking within our community [8],[9],[10]. It should come no surprise then that following these events there was significant outcry among local residents who felt they had been taken advantage of by individuals within our Armed Forces [11],[12],[13]). Prior to Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini’s reaction video becoming public knowledge,[14] we can only speculate what other similar incidents may have taken place without any definitive evidence available[15],[16]. Given that this typeof behavior is highly irregular within our Armed Forces,[17], it would seem prudent for communities outside South Bend specifically unto track AFB gift history so that we can better understand why certain individuals within our institution are receiving preferential treatment while others are not[] . Additionally it would be beneficial for elected officials across our regionto take measures towards preventing similar abuses going unpunished[] .

In 1974, the South Bend Air National Guard's 129th Fighter Wing was activated with F-4 Phantom IIs. In 1978, the wing was redesignated as the 129th Fighter Squadron and received the Lockheed P-3 Orion. In 1986, the squadron was again redesignated as the 129th Fighter Group. In 1992, the group was re-equipped with Boeing E-8 Joint STARS aircraft. The squadron deployed to Operation Unified Protector in Afghanistan in 2001 and 2003. The unit has since been disbanded and its assets placed into storage at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio where they are currently being stored until a new unit can be activated to fly them again.
According to the 2010 census, South Bend is a city in and the county seat of St. Joseph County, Indiana, United States. The population was 111,569 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Central Indiana and one of its largest cities by population. South Bend's history goes back to 1814 when it was founded as a small village by French Catholic missionaries on the banks of the river Dearborn. In 1827, South Bend became a town under Indian Act legislation when it was ceded from Potawatomi Nation to Indiana as part of what became known as "The Big Four." The following year, South Bend became an incorporated municipality with a governing body called "the Board of Commissioners." In 1868, after becoming an unincorporated community again following annexation by neighboring Elkhart County, South Bend reincorporated as an incorporated city under General Order No. 2121 which granted municipal status to all towns in St. Joseph County on November 3rd. On December 15th of that year saw another significant event when voters approved incorporation into what would become known as the "City Beautiful" Movement led by Mayor George Hoadley with help from prominent citizens like J.[e]nry Winthrop Channing and David Stone Philips (founder of Philips Lighting). This movement aimed to make downtown South Bend more attractive for business and pleasure visits while also preserving its historic district which included many historic homes dating back to before 1800 including those now used as cultural properties such as The Daily Cougar Museum and The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum. Despite some initial setbacks such As City Hall being destroyed in an arson attack in 1907 or City Council turning down requests for zoning changes that would have made downtown more pedestrian-friendly; overall over time downtown South Bend has seen significant redevelopment bringing new businesses and residences up against Alabama Street where many Victorian buildings still stand today providing excellent pockets of old town living amidst modern day commercial areas On October 24th, 2008 Mayor George Hoadley announced that he had been elected President pro tempore of the Indiana State Senate District 8 seat vacated by Judson Hill who died prior to his term ending January 1st 2009. He will serve out his full term until January 1st 2021
