St. John's parish, located in the town of St. Joseph, Indiana, was founded in 1847 by Father John J. Flynn and the Sisters of Mercy. The parish is part of the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis. In 1954, the church building was donated to the parish by Mrs. Florence Egan and a group of local women who organized a drive to raise money for renovation and expansion of the church on land that they had donated to the parish. The first services were held in September 1954 inside the old schoolhouse until it was destroyed by a fire; however, soon after new construction began on what is now known as "The Blessed Sacrament Church", services were held inside again and have continued ever since. Currently there are over 400 Catholics living in St. John's Parish including both adults and children who attend mass every day from morning until evening along with various parochial functions such as confession, weddings, funerals, masses for members of other churches within our diocese or for people connected with any number of charitable organizations which we support financially through contributions made each month to our account at Holy Cross Bank NA). The history of this little village goes back many years before its current location within Indianpolis Township (now part of St Joseph) on State Road 54 just east off US-24 between Terre Haute and Lafayette Counties can be found in minutes flat when looking at Google Maps - indeed if you only know about one thing about Indianpolis during these past few decades it has been how rapidly its population growth has outpaced that even seen experienced residents fall away over time! And yet here we are today - nestled right amongst some beautiful rolling hills surrounded by some very nice homes complete with garages - still going strong thanks largely to God’s provision for an excellent pastor/ishop (whose arrival coincided exactly 100 years ago!) named Fr John Fitzpatrick who comes from a long line of Irish immigrants who have worked hard not only here but also throughout Central Indiana – all without forgetting their friends and family back home! Just recently I attended his funeral Mass at Our Lady Queen Of Peace Assumption Parish Church where he was buried after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer less than two weeks shy of his 114th birthday! It really does seem like good things come around once again...

Pope Pius IX called for the establishment of a religious order in Indiana on November 1, 1868. The Order of Preachers and Teachers was founded by Blessed John XXIII as a response to the growing need for priests in America. In 1893, St. John's Parish was established in Indianapolis with the support of the Pope. After years of growth, St. John's Parish officially became a parish on January 1, 1912. The parish then experienced another surge in growth when it merged with neighboring parishes to form Holy Cross Parish on October 5, 1922. On February 14, 1957, Holy Cross Parish disbanded due to financial difficulties. On May 15th, 1987, St. John's Parish formally re-united with Holy Cross Parish and changed its name back to HolyCross Parish StJohnsChurch/Indianapolis . The parish today is home to over 4500 Catholics who come from all corners of the United States and around the world for their Catholic faith and experiences at SaintJohnsChurch! Our parish provides an environment where people can come together for worship services every Sunday morning including Masses celebrated in English and Spanish as well as French , German , Italian and Portuguese . St. John, Indiana was founded in 1814 by the Methodist Episcopal Church. The town was named for Saint John of God, a legendary missionary who journeyed to India in the 6th century AD.
