During this time, the unit consisted of a few hundred men who were called up for duty in times of peace or emergency. From then until World War II, the National Guard periodically rotated through St. John County and its surrounding areas providing support to local militias as needed. When the Korean War broke out in 1950, the Indiana National Guard was called into service and provided combat units throughout south central Indiana for two years before being mustered out on October 15th, 1953. The last National Guard unit in St. John County was activated on September 25th, 1969 when troops from Fort Wayne arrived to provide support for local law enforcement efforts during riots that had broken out following an election victory by Howard Ziegler over incumbent Robert Haulding. In 1907, the church built its own schoolhouse which still stands today as a museum to promote social justice and education in local schools In 1932, St Johns Parish merged with neighboring Uniontown to form one large parish with an overall population of 2,000 people In 1960, portions of both parishes were annexed into what is now Marion County In 1983, parts of Unions Township (southwest corner of St Johns Parish) were annexed into St Johns Parish while nearby north-central Indiana village Fishers became an unincorporated community

In 1811, St. John's Parish was established in what is now the city of Indianapolis. The parish was named for Saint John the Baptist, who had been martyred inespite of being a very popular figure with the people of his day. In 1834, the present-day church and graveyard were erected on land donated by Colonel James Henshaw. The first pastor of St.John's Parish was Rev. George Boudreau, who served from 1835 to 1840. During this time, much development took place in the parish including the construction of a new schoolhouse and a Methodist Church which opened in 1840. In 1865, Revs. Cornelius Jansen and Augustus Herrity became pastors of St. John's Parish after they were appointed by Bishop Samuel Madden as part of an effort to improve religious life in Indianapolis. At this time, there were over 100 Catholics living withinStjjohn's boundaries and many felt that their community needed more pastoral care than was available from their local clergymen alone. Under Pastor Jansen's guidance, formal services were introduced into the parish which helped increase attendance at church services and bring about a sense of community among its residents In 1971, when Pope Paul VI visited Indianapolis for Eastertide Services he dedicated one side of St Johns Chapel which later became known as "ThePope's Side." This event led to increased donations from individuals throughout Indiana to help support Catholic parishes across America during this period Pastor Melvin Dyer assumed controlofStjjohn's Parish on January 1st 1992 after serving as interim pastor for five months following Reverend Daryl Kapp’s retirement (Kapp had become ill). Under Pastor Dyer’s leadership growth was seen both inside and outside the parish with renovations taking place such as new bathrooms and kitchenettes; all while still providing worship opportunities for our faithful families On October 3rd 2003 we celebrated our 250th anniversary with feasts celebrating Our Lady Of Mount Carmel (1815), Our Lady Of Loretto (1922), Saints Stanislaus And Teresa Of Calcutta (1920), Feast Of Fatima 1917) & Divine Mercy 1923). A plaque recognizing this milestone is located atop altar near main door
