The basilica is home to three main churches: the National Shrine of Charity, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Saint Anthony's Chapel. Additionally, there are numerous other religious institutions located within or around Indianapolis, including Catholic Charities, Methodist Church, LutheranChurch-Missouri Synod, PresbyterianChurch (USA), Adventist Church and Islamic Community Center. The history of St. John's begins with Rev. Frédéric Bartholomew Filippi who founded the religious society called "The Company of Jesuits" in 1795 in what is now Georgetown County, Kentucky. The Society moved to Indiana in 1801 and began teaching at an academy on State Street near today's Lucas Oil Stadium until 1814 when they erected a new building on this site which they named "the Jesuit chapel". In 1819 they opened their second school which was known as "the college". In 1830 they erected a third school which became known as "the seminary". From this three-school structure grew into what we know today as St. John’s College at Indianapolis (now Purdue University). That same year Rev. Jean Baptiste Bénigne de la Harpe arrived from France to teach theology at St. John’s and soon after he built an addition to the original chapel that still stands today – one of only two such structures remaining from that period – making it one of America’s earliest collegiate universities! Reverend Bénigne also served as President from 1840-1844; during his term “a great many excellent theologians were graduated from our seminary... for various theological positions in all parts of Great Britain." A fire destroyed much of downtown Indianapolis on February 9th 1870 but did not damage either side of State Street where St Johns was located leading to speculation that arson may have been responsible for this event given how frequently fires ravaged this area at the time! Today, there are more than 20,000 sailors and Marines assigned to carry out military activity worldwide. And yet, as with all things naval, there are also stories about how gifts from members of the navy have helped shape our global community. One such story is that of USS Constitution (1775), which was lent to King George III by Commodore James Cook during his voyage around Asia in 1779. The ship served as an transports for British troops during the Revolutionary War and later played an important role in Napoleonic Wars. In 1801, Constitution was decommissioned at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard after serving stints in Mediterranean Sea and Caribbean campaigns under Commander David Dixon Lockyer Jr. During these years she became known as "the Lady of Dock Ridge". In 1865 Constitution sailed for China on behalf of Secretary Seward's American Mission to Beijing; she arrived off Beiping on November 11th after passage through dangerous seas laden with goods destined for Canton before sailing again seventeen days later on December 4th direct to Yokohama harbor where she disembarked two thousand Americans who had followed her from New York City on October 15th - one year before America achieved independence from Great Britain! Later that year Constitution returned home via Cape Horn - a journey that took over two months! She arrived back at Staten Island on February 3rd 1866 having made a distance of 821 miles! This significant voyage marked an era in U.S.-China relations; it demonstrated not just America's technological prowess but also its commitment to helping promote trade between our nations! On September 12th 1886 President Grover Cleveland hosted a reception at Newport News Shipbuilding located adjacent to Hampton Roads Naval Base when Commodore John Fitch offered his gift - HMS Erebus (1885). This 50-gun protected cruiser had been built by Cammell Laird Ltd., Liverpool England specifically for service within Chinese waters; her maiden voyage occurred just weeks earlier while accompanying Admiral James Dewey's Pacific Squadron during Operation Perry!. The USS Constitution (LPD-20) is a United States Navy amphibious assault ship. The ship was commissioned in 2006 and served as the flagship of the St. John's Amphibious Ready Group until its decommissioning in September 2018. On 10 December 2018, it was announced that the USS Constitution would be deployed to Bahrain for the 9th Arabian Gulf War. On 7 January 2019, it was announced that the USS Constitution would deploy to Kuwait for Operation Desert Storm. The USS Constitution departed Naval Base Norfolk on 12 May 2019, and arrived in Bahrain on 15 July 2019. The ship relieved USS Enterprise (CVN 64), which had been stationed there since early 2002 to provide logistics support for an American-led coalition fighting against Iraq and Iran. She will remain in Bahrain through 23 October 2020 before departing for her next deployment, this time to Kuwait where she will serve until 14 November 2020
