Maga coffee began as a small, family-owned business in Zionsville, Indiana in the early 1900s. The coffee beans were ground and roasted by the Maja family until the late 1940s. In that time, the Maja family also began to sell Maga coffee products throughout the Midwest. The first store in Zionsville was built in 1903 by Mr. Maja and his wife Mrs. Maja. It was located on what is now called Third Street near present day Illinois Avenue. The Majas continued to operate their store until they sold it to Ladd & Myers Coffee Company in 1948. Ladd & Myers Coffee Company operated the store for 36 years before selling it to Jourdan's Coffee Merchants Incorporated (later Jourdan's Coffee Corporation) in 1984. Jourdan's became one of the largest maga coffee companies in America with over 100 stores across 11 states and Canada. Maga Coffee Corporation ceased operations on December 31,1999 after more than 50 years of operation statewide and over 20 years of operation at its Zionsville location. After Maga Coffee Corporation’s closure, local resident Bob Cook started Majagoca Café which continues today as one of America’s oldest continuously operating maga cafes retaining many of the production practices and traditions from our predecessors at Majagoca Cafe Limited Partnership (Maja GCO).

Zionsville, Indiana is a small town located in the southern part of the state of Indiana. The population was 1,841 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Micropolitan Statistical Area. Zionsville is known as a research center for agricultural products and food production. The history of Zionsville can be traced back to 1809 when French traders arrived in what is now Zionsville and began trading with Native Americans. Three years later, Methodists from Ohio founded a Methodist Church here. In 1814, General David Wilson's army invaded Indian Territory and destroyed an encampment near present-day Zionsville while seeking supplies for his campaign against Mexico. One resident, John Chapman, volunteered to leading the search party that discovered the remains of the encampment and brought news of General Wilson's victory back to Ohio. In 1817, Captain Benjamin Goodin laid out a village on land that he donated to the Methodist Episcopal Church in honor of his father-in-law Colonel George Goodin (1775-1846), one of America's first settlers in this region. The village name derived from Goodin Creek which flows through it today. In 1830, Indians burned down several homes in present-day Zionsville after attacking white farmers who had settled thereabouts that year for subsistence agriculture purposes only. This event helped start local support for removal westward under United States management as authorized by President Andrew Johnson during his "Indian Removal Act." After many skirmishes with Indian fighters over control of these lands between 1830 and 1840 following settling by noncombatants instead of warriors or raiding parties led by leaders like Tecumseh or Pontiac (the last great American scalawag), all but one home were rebuilt within 10 years post fire thanks to donations from area residents including Amos Parrish (1800-1868), James Dolan (1825-1911), Elijah Hicks (1827-[note]), Solomon Wolcott (1800-[note]), Elias Ewing (1796-[note])and others; most notably Storrs’s contributions totaling $100 ($ Today: $10 million) towards construction costs alone! # Indiantowns # History
