Auld and his family were among the final passengers on the "Eagle" ship which left Liverpool for America on July 15th, 1827. In 1887 an additions to the old school were made adding a library and music room as well as two new classrooms. In 1896 an addition to the north side of town added another three stories to provide more space for businesses and residences while also increasing access to public transportation within town limits. It wasn't until 1951 when an annex east of downtown became available for housing growth while still providing access to public services such as water supply and sewerage through streets off Main Street

In 1881, Berea became the capital of newKentucky when Louisville was replaced as the state's capital. In 1925, Berea merged with neighboring towns of Paducah and Palestine to form the city of Paducah-Berea. The merger made Berea one of the largest cities in Kentucky and helped to revive its economy. Today, Berea is a major cultural and shopping center located within easy driving distance of both Lexington and Louisville.
