The Bowling Green Air Force Base has been a military installation for over 50 years. The base is home to the Kentucky Air National Guard, which is responsible for providing air support for the state of Kentucky and its citizens. In addition to providing aerial refueling and combat search and rescue capabilities, the Kentucky Air National Guard also provides civil aviation services by providing charter flights, flying medical evacuations, and performing other essential functions in the community. One of the most important aspects of the Air Force's presence at BG AFB is their gift history. The Wing Commander's Award was first given out in 1967 to recognize superior service by an enlisted member within the Wing during that year. From then until 2003,BG AFB honored retired USAAF officers with annual Awards as well as numerous Commendation Medals/Thrones bestowed on active duty USAF members throughout our history (See Appendix A). These awards reflect not only BG AFB's long history but also our commitment to excellence in all we do. The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History is the history of air force troops and theirDeployment gifts to friends, family, and allies. The program began in 1947 when the USAF established a gift history unit within Headquarters USAF. From then until its discontinuation in 1996, the USAF deployed gift history units stationed throughout the world. Each unit kept track of all Gifts given by service members to others in order to create an archival record of U.S. air force troops' deployment gifting activity. Since 1996, there have been two main types of deployments: humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping missions. During humanitarian assistance missions, service members provide relief goods or services to earthquake victims or other disaster-hit areas; during peacekeeping missions, they participate in military operations as part of multinational forces or regional organizations such as NATO or OASIS. Gift History Units are responsible for providing records ( copies if any) of all Gifts given between individuals in eachDeployment Period including but not limited to those related to deployed time period(s). Records must be maintained for at least five years after each Deployment has ended so that Gifts can be properly researchied and tracked for future generations!

Bowling Green is a town located in Eastern Kentucky, United States. The population was 9,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Floyd County. The name "Bowlings Green" is likely derived from the nearby meadow where much of the town's early development took place. The first person to settle in what is now Bowling Green was George Washington Carver who erected a gristmill and mill on the present site in 1869. At that time, it was one of two towns in Floyd County and had a population of about seventy-five people. Manufacturing began shortly thereafter with construction of a sawmill, brewery, cotton gin and other utilities by local entrepreneurs such as Fenton Waddell and John Pemberton. The township was organized on February 15, 1877 from parts of Hardin and Scott counties. At its incorporation, it included all of Floyd County except for part of Lawrenceburg which lay within Scott County to become part of that county after it became an independent republic in 1907. In 1909, when Louisville acquired exclusive control over transportation in eastern Kentucky due to statehood proceedings, Bowling Green became an important transportation hub as well as becoming home to several large automotive plants including Alcoa and Bethlehem Steel Company among others during the heyday of Motorsports in Kentucky before World War II
Bowling Green was founded in 1781 by James Logan and is the oldest city in Kentucky. The city was originally named for Bowling Green, Virginia, but it changed its name to Bowling Green in 1857 after becoming an incorporated municipality. The city's first post office opened in 1853. In 1902, the city became a member of the United States City Commission. In 1907, the city annexation of neighboring towns made it one of the first cities in Kentucky to be annexed into a larger municipality. On December 1, 1912, Bowling Green became one of only twenty-one cities in Kentucky to ratify the National City Charter.
