The store was built by entrepreneur Randy Bickerton and featured two floors of retail space with over 50 different varieties of caffeine drinks and pastries. Bowling Green is a city in Kentucky, United States. The population was 24,542 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. Bowling Green has been called "the Athens of the West" and "The Birthplace of the American Revolution." The first people to live in what is now Bowling Green were Native Americans who hunted and gathered food near the present-day neighborhoods of downtown and east central Bowling Green. By 1790, English settlers had established a small town on the east side oftown, which they named after their home country, England. In 1802, General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from Huntsville to what is now downtown Bowling Green and ordered that all Indian lands beSold to white citizens as part of his land policy known as the Indian Removal Act. In 1817, Colonel John Covington founded a Baptist church in what is now eastern government district 2 (now northwest section). The building still stands today and can be seen from Interstate 65 northbound between Lexington and Morgantown. Reverend Covington donated land for the church on which it sits and also built another building on nearby Ladies Lane for use as an academy for young women. This Female Academy would later become Primitive Methodist Episcopal Church (now First Presbyterian Church) when it was organized in 1861 by Rev. Drury Laddon with assistance from Bishop James McKnight's Episcopal congregation in Louisville. It wasn't until 1827 that Congress passed an act authorizingthe erectionof public schools within ten miles (18 km) of each capitalcity in this new country; Bowling Green was one such school! A group of wealthy individuals led by24-year old John Hickman bought land two miles (3 km) northeast of downtownin what is now eastern government district 1A (now northwestern section). They began constructionon what would become Hickman Business School which opened its doors to students on November 6,. 1829! Hickman's donation would lead to Washington University being founded there soon afterwards! On February 14th, 1830, local resident James Silliman donated 3 acres (1 km²)to become Mount Vernon Cemetery where George Washington interred his wife Martha Custis Lee among others during her lifetime - this event marks one of history's earliest cemetery gifts! When Kentucky became a state on December 15th,-1830,-Mount Vernon Cemetery became state property!! As more people moved into central Kentucky during Reconstruction following the Civil War,, so too did bowling green onto its current map shape with nearly all manufacturing moving out westward during this time including much heavy industry like coal mining which took place near Hazelnut Hill just southwest of town along I-65/ MD 137
In 1795, Bowling Green was founded as a trading post on the Kentucky River. In 1802, it became a town and in 1820 it became an incorporated city. The first mayor was James A. Hogg. The present-day downtown is home to many of Bowling Green's historical landmarks such as the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and the old State Capitol building.
