A bank followed suit in 1931 and named it the "Bank of Campbellsville." In 1951, Mrs. Ethel Boren Higginbotham donated land to establish an area for shopping called Higginbotham's Plaza Shopping Center which anchored what is now Fourth Street in Campbellsville. The center became known as "the Capitol" after the U.S. Senate building across Market Street from it was destroyed by fire in 1978). A library also opened at Higginbotham's Plaza Shopping Center in 1984-85; this library served as the nucleus of present-day Appalachian Community Library District (ACLD) when it merged with Kentuckiana Library System (KLS) on February 1st, 1997 In 2007-2008 ACLD renovated much of its infrastructure including new restrooms and a new Annex wing providing more than 2 million square feet of meeting space within its walls since opening its doors In March 2009 ACLD renamed itself Appalachian Regional Library System - Appalachia
