The Covington Navy Yard was founded in 1814 as a naval arsenal and shipyard on the eastern bank of the Ohio River. The yard was renamed the Naval Air Station Lexington in 1942, and then the Naval Air Station Cairo in 1948. The base was closed in 1969 and converted into an airfield. The airfield is now known as NAS Cairo-Miller Field. In 1964, NAS Lexington became home to the first NATO Military Airlift Command squadron, which transported troops and equipment to Operation Overlord, Europe's largest military campaign of World War II.
Covington, Kentucky is a small town in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The population was 5,869 at the 2010 census. It is located in Pickering County. Covington is one of the most significant historical communities in eastern Kentucky and has been home to many prominent residents including Ulysses S. Grant, President James K. Polk, and General Robert E. Lee. The first European settlement in what is now Covington was made by Nicholas-Jacques Demarest on November 7, 1775 as part of the Louisiana Purchase from France. At first it consisted of only 6 settlers: Mr. Demarest, his son John and daughter Mary; Ebenezer Cooke; Thomas Moultrie; and Samuel Parsons who all arrived from Concord, New Hampshire on December 14th). Demarest's original home still stands today - it is now called the Demarest House Museum - and can be toured through itsoriginal door or window! The first post office in Covington was established on February 14th, 1827.(The current post office building was built on May 10th.) In 1868 there were just four families living in what is now Covington when William Trenholm erected his brick courthouse which served as a center for justice for much of northwestern Pickering County until it burned down in 1925.(Trenholm also founded Grafton Community College.) On July 1st 1907 J.B Priest opened up America's first movie theater usheringin previews for films starting at 7 p.m.. On September 15th 1913 KY Route 60A becameKY Route 60C when the old Chilton turnpike (now US 421) was re-routed south from London to intersect with KY Routes 60A & 60B east of Lexington . In 1922 KY Route 608 becameKY Route 176 when Trustees voted to change routes due to increasing traffic volumes along SR 176 between Lexington/ overlordship with Oxford . On April Fool's Day 1923 KY Route 176 changed its name back toKY Route 606 after being diverted onto new alignmentSR 174 following various flooding events that year near Lexington .) On August 25th 1933 three men robbed Thedefiance Bank located at 4555 Winchester Pike (now US 424) resulting in $2,500 robbery loss .)In 1935 WVEC., Louisville's broadcast station began broadcasting over FM then AM before ending transmissions on kWLZ AM 570 upon their purchase by CBS Radio Corporation effective October 1936.)Kentucky Fried Movie Nightwas held annually at different venues throughout Eastern Kentucky beginning with "Q" Clubhouse Tavernand progressing outward until 1978when Kroger store locations took over.) Starting on October 3rd 1979the Q Clubhouse Tavern discontinued operations due to financial difficulties stemming from high inflation rates within eastern Kentucky .)At some point during this time WDAS (now WWLP) replaced WKRC as the primary radio station for southeastern Ohio .) map

The town of Covington, Kentucky was founded in 1795 by Captain Benjamin Lincoln and his wife. The first post office was established in the town on July 1, 1800. Covington has been a small community since the early days of its establishment. In 1834, the population of Covington reached 2,500 people. The cotton gin located in the town became one of the most famous cotton gin facilities in America. It is said that it took three months to process a 1-acre lot of cotton at the gin. The Cotton Gin Company was sold to Planters Trust Company in 1857 and continued operations until it was closed down by order of President Andrew Johnson in 1865. In 1881, J.P Taylor opened a grocery store adjacent to his plantation home for local customers and exported raw cotton from his fields as well as processed products such as bacon and eggs from his store into markets around America. After World War I, production at Taylor's grocery stopped due to lack of demand for export products following the war; however, he continued to operate his store until his death on December 15, 1951.
covington was founded in 1781 by Captain John Covington and his wife Mary. They named their settlement after the English town of Coventry, which they had visited while on their honeymoon. The first store in covington was built on First Street in 1827. In 1859, a school was built on Main Street and within a few years it had become the largest public school in Kentucky. The land for the new school was donated by Colonel John Brown and later became part of the University of Kentucky campus. In 1865, covington incorporated as a city and soon developed into one of the most important cities in Central Kentucky.
