The business continued to be run by Yates until 1865 when it was purchased by John Sutter. Sutter began to produce and sell his own beans, which helped make Henderson the center of the small batch coffee industry in Kentucky. In 1915, Frank Perkins bought Yates’s share of the business and continue running it until his death in 1948. During Perkins’ ownership, small batches of coffee were produced at various locations across Henderson including on Sixth Street near the Post Office and on Main Street near the Baptist Church. In addition to continuing to produce beans for his own home-brewed coffee, Perkins also sold pre-packaged boxes of ground coffee containing about two cups each to retailers such as Sears and Roebuck. These stores became known as “Perkins Market” because they served both local residents as well as customers from nearby towns who came into town for dinner or a cup of Joe. After Perkins’ death, control over the company passed through several hands before being bought out by Edward Jaffe in 1968. At Jaffe's shop (now called "The Coffee Bean Shop"), small batches continued to be produced under careful watch by employees until 1989 when all production ceased due to an injury sustained during a manufacturing process.
