NAS Lexington also played a role in the Korean War by hosting fighter and bomber units of the US Seventh Fleet. In 1951, NAS Lexington changed its name to Naval Air Station Joint Base Lewis-McChord and began providing services to the Marine Corps as well as other branches of the military. In 1994, NAS Lewis-McChord was transferred from US command to Japanese control and reverted back to its original name: Naval Air Station Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The base has since been renamed Maritime Self Defense Force (MSDF) Kobe Airport after Japan's recent purchase of American land adjacent to it which will house an aluminum plant and associated housing development.
Hopkinsville is a town in Logan County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Logan County. The Hopkinsville Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The original site for Hopkinsville was located near the present-day intersection of West Main and Second Streets. John Ladd, a Revolutionary War captain and father of Congressman James Ladd (1820-1900), donated land to make the town possible. The first post office was established in 1798, and the first store opened in 1801. In 1812, John Sevier built a sawmill on what is now Court Street in Hopkinsville; this mill served as an important economic engine for much of Logan County until it closed around 1840. In 1814, Isaac Asbury founded what would eventually become known as Asbury Park; he named it after his brother Ethan Asbury who had helped contribute $5,000 towards its construction. On December 12th of that year, just two weeks after Christmas, enraged residents burned down Asbury Park while they were inside; no one was ever arrested or charged with any crime related to this event. By 1830, most citizens in Hopkinsville had either moved away or died off during the Great Indian Removal Trail era which ended with Cherokee Removal in 1830.
