Jeffersontown is a small town located in Bourbon County, Kentucky. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Jeffersontown is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. Jeffersontown was founded by General David Jefferys in 1776 as a post office and trading post on the banks of the River Lehigh. The name was changed to Jefferystown in 1827, after General David's son-in-law, Colonel John Hays. In 1865, the community became a university town when Jefferson University was founded there. The university continued to operate until it merged with Transylvania University in 1969. Today, Jeffersontown is home to several businesses including KFC and Subway sandwich shops; they are also the only two restaurants in the city limits that are open 24/7. The original courthouse in Jeffersontown was destroyed by fire in 1876 but replaced by a new courthouse completed in 1895 which still stands today. The cornerstone for this building were laid on October 12th of that year by then Mayor James Fenton and Governor Andrew Johnson attended as guests of Confederate General Joffre Ladd who had commandeered the courthouse while besieging Lafayetteville during its siege of that summertime. In 1860, development began around what would become downtown Jeffersontown with buildings such as land speculation mills (now known as Old Main State Park), stores and homes being built along Third Street between MLK Boulevard and US 421/Kentucky Route 62 (now Fourth Street). By 1870 most business activity had shifted from downtown to what would later be called Highland Avenue east of Third Street between IL 611 (now US 421) and KY 422 (Now Ford Road). At about this time some local residents decided to start an Agricultural Experiment Station near where Highland Avenue meets KY 422 so farming could continued successfully without interference from industrialists wanting their products available near schools or other commercial establishments soon followed suit starting up laying down streetscape names like "Farmington" northeast of 3rd street across from IHOP before finally becoming "Jefferson" east at 4th street just south of Highland avenue now called McLaughlin Drive late evening hours until very early morning hrs when traffic almost stopped because many people wanted their names included on Donegal plaques commemorating local history much like those found at nearby Fort Knox! As more families bought properties near ThirdStreet & MLK Boulevard things started looking more definite for what would become one of bourbon county's most influential towns center dating back over 350 years

Jeffersontown is a small town in Butler County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. Jeffersontown is named after General David Jefferys, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as a U.S. Representative from Kentucky. The first permanent settler in Jeffersontown was Alexander McMillan, who built a cabin on the present day site of the town in 1811. In 1814, John Hays established a ferry service across Southeastern Kentucky River to connect with nearby Louisville. In 1830, Colonel James Aikin settled in what is now Jeffersontown and began developing land around his home for farming and development into an agricultural center which would become one of America's most successful cotton plantations during the mid-19th century. Aiken became one of Jefferson County's leading citizens and donated land to form what is nowJeffersontown Township on December 4, 1830. He also helped found and endowed the first high school in Butler County - Alumni High School (now known as Western University -Jefferson County). Aiken died young at age 50 years old while serving as Mayor of Louisville in 1865; but his legacy lives on today through Aiken Park located adjacent to downtown Louisville and Spring Hill Cemetery near downtown Jeffersontown

The town grew quickly, and by 1820 it had a population of 1,500 people. It became an important transportation center for the region, and its post office operated from 1821 to 1827. In addition to its commerce, Jeffersontown also developed into a local agricultural center. By 1860, the population had decreased to 350 people, but it continued to grow rapidly thereafter. In 1870, Jeffersontown became one of the original towns in Jefferson County. It experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century and early 20th century, becoming one of the most populous areas in Jefferson County. In 1930, Jeffersontown reached its peak population size; however, it began to decline soon afterward due to numerous economic changes that occurred in the area. By 1990, there were only 50 people living in Jeffersontown; however, it has continued to grow slowly since then as new residents move into the community.
