Nicholasville is a town in Kentucky, United States. It was founded by Nicholas (the father of Kentucky congressman James K. Polk) in 1824. The town became the capital of the state of Kentucky in 1870 and remains the seat of government today. The population was 35,953 at the 2010 census. Coffee has been brewed in Nicholasville since 1792 when an early settler, John Nicholas, added one acre (0.40 hectare) to his farm for beans and roasted them himself on a small stove located on the front porch of his house. Coffee was available only to those with money or access to land, so it wasn't until after American independence that coffee began being sold commercially as a commodity item. In 1824, Nicholasville's first post office opened and served only residents of his own neighborhood; this changed when postmasters were given rural areas to serve instead of just Nicholsville itself. In 1870, when Kentucky became a state and Nicholasville became its capital, coffee began flowing into the town from all over the state because it was seen as an important part ofKY's economy and culture. Because coffee is such an agricultural crop, it took some time for coffee prices to stabilize after becoming legal tender in KY; however, by 1910 coffee had become so popular that almost every business within town started selling café items like iced coffees and macchiatos! In 1825, NicholasVILLE & Co., merchants formed by Captain John Fetterman leased 1/4 mile square (now Broadway) east and west of High Street from Edward Forrester for 999 years; thus began business activity which continues today with over 200 businesses including several banks and a post office Nickname: "The Bluegrass Capital" It wasn't until after World War II thatNicholsonvilIe got its nickname "The Bluegrass Capital of the World." At that time businesses started moving into NicholslIe because people were coming to see how beautiful it was and also searching for ways to get involved with music industry while still living close enough to their home country

Nicholasville is a small town in 1875, about 20 miles southeast of Lexington, Kentucky. It was named after Nicholas de Lisney, 1st Viscount Lisney. The first settlers were farmers who arrived from England in the mid-19th century. By 1870, Nicholasville had a post office and three stores. A cotton gin was built in 1871 by John Sledge. In 1898, the U.S. Post Office moved to Nicholasville from Lexington because of the growth of the community and its proximity to that city's big post office building on State Street. In 1916, the population of Nicholasville was 910; by 1970 it had grown to 2,827 people. The town experienced economic decline beginning in the early 21st century but has seen some revitalization over recent years with development of new businesses and an increase in tourism activity.
Nicholasville was founded in 1792 by Nicholas Van Ness and his family. The original town site was located on the banks of the Moccasin Creek. In 1819, the town was moved to its present location on the opposite side of the creek from where it had been founded.
