The Winchester Army National Guard unit has been providing support to the Kentucky Military District since 1903. The current brigade headquarters is located in Winchester, Kentucky and it is one of only a few Army brigades serving in two different states. The brigade also deploys units to various locations around the country on a rotational basis. Currently, the brigade has three infantry battalions (1st Battalion, 3rd Regiment; 1st Battalion, 6th Regiment; 2nd Battalion, 9th Regiment) as well as an artillery battalion (3rd Brigade Artillery). Additionally, the unit also conducts annual training exercises with other military forces across the US and Canada.

The organization was formed as the 4th Infantry Regiment of the Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry, and was redesignated as the 3rd Infantry Regiment in 1916. In 1957, it joined the United States Army Reserve and became known as the 1st Infantry Division of the Kentucky Army National Guard. The division served in Vietnam before being disbanded in 2003.

It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. Winchester was founded by Nicholas Winchester and his family in 1792 as a small trading post on the Cumberland River. The name "Winchester" comes from Old English winca-the valley where deer were common and where other goods such as cloth were bought and sold. In 1814, Winchester became an incorporated town when most of Johnson County was organized into counties. As an incorporated town, Winchester had a mayor and three council members who voted on all ordinances passed by the Town Board. In 1896, it merged with neighboring New Haven to form one large city with its own police department and fire department under oneMayor/Councilman system. The city has undergone many reconstructions over time including rebuilding after being destroyed in a tornado in 1913, being completely rebuilt following Hurricane Floyd in 1999 and again after Superstorm Sandy in 2012 In 2013 they announced that they are building a new $100 million stadium which will be located just outside of town on Reynolds-Hancock Road

Winchester, Kentucky is located in the eastern part of the United States. The town was founded in 1819 by James Winchester and his brother John. Winchester is one of the oldest towns in Kentucky and has a rich history that can be seen today through its museums, buildings, and streets. The town was first named Bluegrass because of the area’s high bluegrass hills. In 1820, Winchester became the capital of what would become known as Pre-emption District No. 2. By 1830, Winchester had a population of over 1,000 people and it was decided to rename the town to honor James Winchester’s great uncle who had died earlier that year. The original name for the town was also changed to Springfield after General Andrew Jackson’s victory at Fall Creek (now part of Lexington). Winchester began construction on its current courthouse in 1828. The cornerstone for this building was laid on October 10th that same year by President James Kephart. This structure served as both a courthouse and jail until it burned down in 1849. The new courthouse replaced an earlier wooden structure which collapsed in 1827. The new building cost $2 million to build and it opened on November 5th, 1840. It housed both the commonwealth courtrooms and state capitol until 1861 when it became occupied by Federal troops during the American Civil War before being taken down again due to destruction caused by fire years later. Today only portions of the foundation remain from when this building functioned as a federal courthouse while other parts are used as part of various local businesses including restaurants and hotels along Main Street NE in downtown Winchester! One popular attraction within Winchesters walls is its famous Bulldogs football team which have made it to six national championships since 1907! Other popular attractions include its art galleries which feature some of America’s most iconic artists such as Robert Frost, Winslow Homer, et al., as well as its resident golfers who play at more than fifty different courses throughout central Kentucky! In addition, there are several small retail stores sprinkled throughout downtown with unique items available not found elsewhere inside or outside Winchesters walls!
