Kenner is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 1,543 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1824 by Frenchmen and has been inhabited by people of French, Spanish, German, and African descent since then. When it was annexed to the United States in 1898, Kenner had a population of 327 residents. The community now has a population of just over 1,500 residents and is home to many churches and library branches as well as Kenner High School which enrolls around 900 students. The economy of Kenner is based on agriculture and support services that are offered to its citizens including water systems, waste management services, local schools (including Isidore-Shreveport School District), police protection services and fire suppression systems. Kenner's rich history includes two Confederate generals who fought for the Confederacy – General Pemberton and General Beauregard – as well as four mayors who were all reelected twice: Mayor Fenton (1930-1935), Mayor Whitehead (1945-1950), Mayor Taddeo (1974-1977) and Mayor Landry (1987-1991). In 1998, hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused extensive damage to the town; however much later Kenner rebuilt with help from the National Guard flood control program which continues today.

Kenner is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 24,452 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1853 by Irish immigrants as Kenner Junction on the Missouri River. After being annexed by New Orleans in 1874, Kenner became known as "the most segregated town in Louisiana." In 1960, it adopted a municipal charter that granted full voting rights to African Americans. By 1990, however, white flight had driven all but 1/8 of the black residents out of the town and its five blocks were almost entirely white. However, Kenner's rich history has not been forgotten; many businesses still exist and are popular tourist destinations for visitors from all over the United States and around the world.
