In 1954, the United States Air Force purchased a Boeing 727-200 for its Hyattsville Wing. The aircraft was named the C-47 Skytrain and served as the squadron's primary transport until it was replaced by the Boeing E-4B Wildcat in 1966. The Aerospace Industries Corporation (AIC) manufactured the C-47 for USAF use and it continues to be used today by numerous air forces around the world. The original C-47s were designed by Boeing and flew from Seattle to Sacramento, California on three routes daily during World War II. More than 50 of these planes were built, including 10 that flew for United StatesAAF Eighth Air Force during Operation Overlord. After the war, these planes underwent modifications at Boeing's factory in Everett, Washington before being delivered to United StatesAAF Ninth Air Force at Kirtland AFB New Mexico in 1946 as part ofOperation Golden Gate. In 1949, when United StatesAFACommand decided that a new generation of transports would be needed to replace aging Douglas DC-3s and Lockheed L-5As,they ordered six Lockheed Lodestars from Lockheed Aircraft Corporation under contract number KO91775. Theseplanes were designated EC-121V although they actually shared no common system features with their American counterparts apart from their unpainted aluminum skinning which gave them an appearance of wood while in storage or storage only! The first EC-121 V arrived at Kirtland AFB on October 15th 1948 having been built by Lockheed Aircraft Corp. as model LKGC 24; serial number 82068/49! On this occasion we also received a plaque recognizing our visitors and residents who had made contributions to military aviation during WW II; affixed to one side of doorjamb inside cockpit! Another plaque honoring members of USAAF Ninth Air Force can also be found in museum wing’s flybridge restoration area (just aft gate #2L). This plaque is inscribed “For The Fallen In WWII” It displays all information currently available regarding each individual listed including rank & unit(ies),date & placeof death etc.. There is no doubt that the Air Force is one of the most important organizations in our world. They play a vital role in society and provide us with many services that we would not be able to do without them. One of the most important services the Air Force provides is its gift program. This program provides members of the Air Force with unique and memorable gifts, which can help them stay close to their loved ones and continue providing quality service. The Air Force gift program began back in 1941, when General George Patton was given a beautiful book by his brother-in-law, wealthy industrialist Henry Luce. The book, entitled “Air Command History”, was an encyclopedia on American airpower and became a prized possession for Patton. After World War II ended, General Eisenhower decided to create an annual Christmas gift for his generals and admirals who had served in the war. He called this program “The Ike Award” and gave it out to Generals Marshall, MacArthur, Tedder, Bundy and others. Since then, there have been numerous changes to the Air Force gift program. first introduced were individualized gifts for members of Congress and other high ranking officials; then came command gifts (such as aircraft or missiles); finally came special occasion gifts such as weddings or christenings. One of the first airforce gifts to Hyattsville was a hangar at Barcroft Field. The barcroft field had been built in 1917 and served as an Air Corps Base until 1942. It was later used as a civilian airport. In 1942, the Air Force moved its main base from Langley AFB, Virginia to Barcroft Field. The gift of a hangar at this new location was one of the largest air force gifts ever given to Hyattsville.
Hyattsville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 6,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–Baltimore–Arlington area. Hyattsville is located on the eastern edge of Hyattsville Heights and borders Bowie and Silver Spring to the north, Lanham to the east, Takoma Park to the south, and Carrollton to the west. The first settler in what is now Hyattsville was James Lancaster who arrived in 1795 from England. By 1820 there were 100 residents living in what is now Hyattsville. In 1828, a group of Englishmen led by Major John Smith bought land east of present-day Blue Bell Road for $2 per acre (0.75 km²). They named their new community "Hyattstown". In 1838 they built a log cabin as their home which still stands today. In 1840 Captain Samuel Chase founded an agricultural society here which became known as The Chase Farm Society. After being disbanded in 1844 he reopened it under new management with six acres (2 km²) of land purchased from John Wanamaker for $5 per year plus expenses. In 1865 he sold his interest to Benjamin Harrison Jr., who continued it until 1886 when it reverted back to Chase Farm Society ownership again by Harrison Jr.'s son Benjamin Harrison III. A post office called Hyattstown was established at this spot in 1868; however no mail ever reached its destination because Baltimore had not yet become a city and did not have an opening day for postal deliveries until May 1, 1870! In 1886 The Chase Farm Society donated 5 acres (20 000 m²) of their land upstream from where current Route 5 joins County Route 113 for use as a public square that would be known as "The Square" or simply "The Square". This donation made possible the erection of many buildings on today's square including: Stroud Library & Museum Building; Masonic Temple; Bethesda Naval Medical Center; Community Methodist Church; and Presbyterian Church...to name but a few! By 1930 there were over 2200 people living in what are now Hyattsville and Bethesda proper while most notably Annapolis had only around 1000 residents! With World War II raging on came an increase in housing projects such as Friendship Estates which housed thousands more people than usual due to enemy bombings during that time period too! However following World War II things slowed down significantly with few new housing developments taking place until 1970 when Kingman Place opened up just northwest of downtown Hyattsville offering much needed affordable housing amidst all that rapid growth!
The USAF has a rich history of airforce gift giving. The first AFGift was in 1948, when the USAF began accepting donations of games and tools for its Air Force Radio School. The USAF's first Missile Wing was established in 1951, and the AFGift program grew quickly thereafter. In 1959, the USAF initiated the National Gift Program (NGP), which enabled individuals to give gifts of money or goods to support military operations abroad. In 1978, Congress charged the AFGift program with providing scholarships for college students who wished to pursue an Air Force career. The NGP has grown into one of the most popular programs within the USAF. Today, there are over 1 million members within the USAF who contribute to the NGP through their personal donations and Membership dues. Gifts from members span all areas of interest and support for our military service members and operational needs aroundthe world. Airman First Class (Airman 3rd Class or below) have been instrumental in making this program possible by contributing many unique items both nationally and internationally. Hyattsville was one of the original towns in Prince George's County, Maryland, and is located on the eastern border of the county. The town was founded in 1783 by Captain John Hyatt and his wife Deborah. The town was named for Colonel James Hyatt, who served as a colonel in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. In 1828, Hyattsville became an incorporated town and it remained that way until 1959 when its status changed to a city. The first settler in what is now Hyattsville was Captain John Hyatt. At that time, it had a population of around 300 people and 10 businesses. In 1839, Colonel James Haddock purchased land east of present-day Friendship Heights from Captain John Hyatt for $1 million dollars. This purchase madeHyattsville one of the most important towns within Prince George's County at that time. As part of this purchase, Haddock also sold off some land to other residents including Samuel Keefer and Amos Kendall Jr.. With these new purchases, Haddock began to build up what would become known as "the Patuxent Reservation". This reservation consisted of over 400 acres which would eventually be developed into one of Baltimore's largest suburbs today – Towson). Haddock died before he could realization his dream and leave any offspring behind him so his nephews Samuel Keefer and Amos Kendall took control of Patuxent Reservation development from their uncle’s deathbed wishes (Kendall even went so far as to sign deeds without knowing their uncle’s identity). Upon SamuelsKeefer’s death in 1840, his brother Amos took over management but soon relinquished all authority after running into financial troubles himself (Amos Kendall Sr died childless in 1851). In 1861 when Baltimore City annexed Prince George’s County, hyattsvilleserveed primarily as a suburb within Baltimore City boundaries until 1959 when its status changed to city status under Mayor Joe “JoePa” Murphy with plans to redevelop everything within its boundaries into high-density housing areas such as Homestead Gardens and Fort McHenry Park (in comparison today much work still remains undone on many aspects surrounding downtown area due mainly to zoning restrictions)). Captain JohnHyatt Elementary School serves students grades PreK-5th grade while Fenwick Middle School serves grades 6th through 8th graders while Stonington High School offers 9th through 12th graders classes starting fall 2009/10 .
