The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of giving back to the community. From providing airmen with essential equipment and supplies, to donating millions of dollars in scholarships and grants, the Airmen of the USAF have always been there for those in need. In 1941, when New Carrollton was first incorporated as a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, the USAAF donated $10,000 towards the purchase of new military equipment for local residents. This donation helped create an air force community within our town- and it continues to be one of its most cherished traditions. In 1954, when New Carrollton became part of Montgomery County, Maryland, the USAF again contributed to our economy bydonating goods such as tires and motorcycles to help keep our county running smoothly. The AFB also provides many cultural opportunities for locals through its lending library series (which currently includes over 100 titles), exhibits at its museum (including displays on aircraft restoration techniques), and more. Today, the USAF remains a vital part of Montgomery County's economy- both through its active duty members who provide operational support across all ranges worldwide; and through donations made by citizens throughout Maryland who appreciate our service. The AFB is home to over 20 thousand people who serve their country with distinction- making it one of America’s largest employer sectors. And just like during World War II when we built up this community around us so that everyone could benefit from aviation technology, today’s Airmen are constantly helping others build strong futures here at home too- whether that means donating time or money into local businesses or otherwise contributing their might to make life easier for others. On July 1, 2017, the Maryland Air National Guard's flew a C-130J Globemaster III into New Carrollton Municipal Airport in order to deliver a gift from the Air Force. The gift was an assortment of military equipment and supplies for use by local police departments.
New Carrollton is located in Prince George's County, Maryland. The city was founded in 1876 by Colonel John Peters and his family. New Carrollton today is a thriving community with a population of over 120,000 people. The city is home to many businesses and organizations, including the New Carrollton Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the New Carrollton High School Athletic Association, and the New Carrollton-Montgomery County Library System. In addition to its vibrant economy, New Carrollton has drawn attention for its unique architecture and history. The first European settlers in what is now Prince George's County were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1664. By 1727, all of present-day Prince George's County had been claimed by the British Crown. When Captain John Smith & Company discovered land on which modern day Montgomery County would be built in 1773, they offered it to Peter Minuit for $10 per acre ($165 per km²). After some discussion between King George III & his Treasurer ( Bolingbroke ), it was decided that the new county would be named for Lord Baltimore (the son of James I ), not for the British Crown’s ruler at that time but rather because “Bolingbroke had been very successful in managing Maryland rice plantations” With only three miles wide (.86 km) between townships on either side of the Potomac River, roads were not developed until after 1800 when traders began traveling through Prince Georges County looking for goods to sell or trade with other parts of North America. This led to development along major commercial routes such as Saratoga Road and First Street south from Georgetown into Frederick Township where new homes were constructed along both sides of First Street until within two blocks of each other on Saratoga Road near where Interstate 95 currently stands In 1876, Colonel John Peters found grant #1 from President Ulysses S Grant authorizing construction of a town parkland east of Catonsville Highway which became known as Peters Park When General James Longstreet surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 he left behind four regiments (2 artillery companies [LCI], 1 infantry company [LCI]) commanded by Major General Oliver Otis Howard with orders to march southwestward through northern Virginia towards Richmond so that General Robert E Lee could surrender there instead . On April 12th 1865 these units reached Petersburg Junction where they halted pending orders southeastward movement west acrossRNDS INTO VIRGINIA Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Brenham commanding 5 Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers reported seeing Rebel troops "halt[ing] their march while they ate their noon meal" before continuing forward approximately 6 miles northeast at Five Forks pastquelike intersection thence upriver until reaching Yorktown Bridge which linked Yorktown Peninsula with Princess Anne Island . Thereafter Major General Howard ordered his men back across Yorktown Bridge without battle continuing southeastward overRNDS INTO VIRGINIA .This event became known as "The Wilderness Campaign ." Confederate officer Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Brenham later wrote "At one point I saw entire brigades commanderless--a most discouraging sight." That same year BrigadierGeneral Edwin Van Deusen reported Confederate forces "...were resting about 2 miles due north at Beverly Hills" just beyond what is now suburban Washington Crossing Elementary School District boundary fence line Although Orders issued by LieutenantColonel Augustus Brenham ordering further movement east were never executed this event has also been interpreted as anFailure By The Generals Commanding Forces To Impulse A resolute Resistance Against Union Arms Invasion .) This history can be traced back to World War II when the military branches of the United States were merged into one organization, the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAAF). The USAF was created as an arm of the US Department of War to provide aerial support for Allied troops in Europe. One of the first items given to the USAF by President Franklin D. Roosevelt was a P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft. The RAF also received this aircraft from America, and it is considered one of Britain’s most famous wartime gifts. During World War II, military aviation played an important role in both strategic and tactical airstrikes against Nazi Germany and Japan. The U S A F-4 Phantom fighter jet was developed as a result of this conflict. The Phantom became one of America’s most successful postwar planes, and its success led to its widespread use within NATO forces throughout the Cold War period. After World War II, American aircrews began flying jets in larger numbers than ever before. In 1955, Congress passed legislation authorizing development and production of Lockheed Martin Company's new F-111A Stealth Fighter Aircraft. With this new plane, American Aerospace Corporation became responsible for manufacturing all America's jet fighters during the Cold War era. This decision led to LockheedMartin becoming well known throughoutthe world for their products - including today's popular jets such as Boeing 737 and Airbus A380 passenger planes

The town prospered until 1813, when a series of large fires destroyed much of the downtown area. New Carrollton slowly rebuilt, but its fortunes declined again after the American Civil War. By 1870, New Carrollton had shrunk to just over 1,000 residents. However, it continued to experience rapid growth following World War II; by 1960, it had reached 2,500 residents. In recent years, however, New Carrollton has seen significant decline as both population and economic activity have decreased along with some suburbanization within the town boundaries
