The first coffeehouses in Rockville were established in the late 18th century. The area was initially a rural agricultural region, and the first coffeehouses were likely located near the homes of farmers and others who drank hot beverages for entertainment. By the early 19th century, Rockville had become one of the most important commercial centers in central Maryland. Coffee became an important part of local society and politics, with influential people often being found drinking coffee at local cafes. In 1864, a group of businessmen developed a business plan to open a small shop on Second Street in downtown Rockville. The shop was called The Gilded Cage and it offered single-serve cups of coffee from $1.25 to $2 per cup. It is unknown when or how this first espresso-driven business started, but it is clear that it was highly popular among locals and was very successful. In 1895, The Gilded Cage merged with another business to form what would eventually be known as Starbucks Coffee Corporation. This business began growing rapidly, becoming one of the largest names in coffee history by 1910. During this time period, Starbucks also played an important role in creating new traditions within American culture – such as providing affordable caffeine drinks for everyday consumers throughout America.
Rockville is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 25,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baltimore–Washington Metropolitan Area. The Rockville Water Treatment plant is one of the largest water treatment plants in the area and has been used to treat drinking water for more than 50 years. The town was founded by English colonists in 1795 as a stop on the road from Frederick to Annapolis. The name "Rockville" first appeared on a map in 1807 and derived from an instance of local violence where two men were fighting over a $1 piece of candy. In 1814, General James Harker established Fort Harker here after his victory over Tecumseh at Monacacy Court House (present-day Howard University). The fort served as an important base for operations during the War of 1812 and also hosted units of Ulysses S. Grant's army during its retreat from Yorktown. In 1861, when Maryland became a state, Rockville became its capital under the new system of government known as "commonwealth status." A few years later it became one of five towns located within Washington County which were given this designation; all other towns were added through annexation by Washington County between 1907 and 1912. By 1925, Rockville had reached its present population size with approximately 3400 residents living in 210 individual homes separated into 12 blocks or parcels totaling 3 acres (1 hectare). During World War II, Rockville played an important role as both an industrial center and military base due to its location inside what is now Montgomery County on I-270 just east of Interstate 95 while Montgomery County was situated within Prince George's County on I-495 north-west of Bethesdahengst Road outside the city limits – rockville residents therefore enjoyed some degree of proximity to both military installations and civilian life (although they could not vote in county elections). One result was that many people who would have otherwise experienced hard wartime living conditions near large military installations came to live here instead because there was no alternative close by. Overall though war production produced many difficulties for civilians: shortages in food and gasoline caused widespread commotion among those unable to sell products or take advantage of free distribution programs instituted by Americans aid organizations; labor shortages forced companies such as GEICO to lay off workers; extraordinary temperatures due largely to Allied bombing resulted in fires that destroyed entire neighborhoods around airfields;[2] however overall most people managed successfully to get along despite some difficult times.[3]

Rockville is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 20,858 at the 2010 census. Rockville is situated on the north bank of the Potomac River and is bordered by Montgomery County to the east and west, as well as by Washington County to the north. The first permanent settler in what is now Rockville was Nicholas J. Carver, who arrived in 1785 from Dorchester County, Massachusetts. He named his new land "Rockville" after his home village of Rokee in Cornwall, England. For many years it was an agricultural community with few residents other than farmers and their families. In 1871 Mapleton House became the first school in Rockville when it was built on land donated by General John P. Mason Jr.. In 1892 construction began on a railroad line from Annapolis Junction to Cross Keys which would connect Baltimore with Washington D.C., changing Rockville from an agricultural center into one of major metropolitan areas in America. At that time there were only about 100 people living in Rockville proper and over 1,000 people working at various businesses throughout the town along with hundreds more citizens living nearby in rural areas connected by railroads and roads
