Rockville is a town in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The population was 21,724 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area. The Rockville ZIP code is 18015. Rockville was founded in 1795 on what are now the north side of Silver Spring Avenue and Old Takoma Road by John Nicholson and his wife Anne Garrett Nicholson. At first it consisted of just a few homes; later it grew to about 300 people with about 20 businesses. In 1875, William Cranch organized Rockville's first school district and named it "Rockville School District No. 1." By 1906, however, Rockville had grown too large for its original school district (now Montgomery County) and became an independent municipality under its own governance with a mayor and city council. In 1916, when Congress moved the U.S.-Mexico boundary line eastward along Potomac River toward Frederick County, Rockville voted to remain within Montgomery County because they felt that their municipal rights would be guaranteed there by law. However, on July 15th 1916 – less than one week after Mexico acquired jurisdiction over most of Baja California – the Mexican government announced that all municipalities within Mexican territory must change their names to reflect this new border (a move known as la migra). As a result of this decision all but two small towns in Baja California were renamed into municipalities within Mexican territory: San Diego de Allende (toijuana), Nuevo Laredo (hermosillo), Ciudad Juárez (Chihuahua City), Sinaloa (Leyva del Norte), Toluca (Toluca City), Zacatecas (Zacatecas City) and Huila-Municipalidad de Monterrey y Tecalán-Municipalidad de Aguascalientes-Municipalidad de Morelia-Municipalidad de Puebla). The only town not changed was Rockville which retained its name despite being located inside Mexican territorial waters off El Paso County, Texas due to complications caused by the fact that both Mexico's federal government and Texan state governments claimed jurisdiction overrockville's airspace/marina/land while also claiming responsibility for any port or landing resources that might be used by rockvilles residents or visitors! This situation lasted until 1917 when Congress passed an act designating El Paso County as the final county ending these jurisdictional problems once and for all; thus rockvillers received back their municipal rights which were finally confirmed in 1924 when Act No 2287 approved resolutions from both Daughters of America’s National Convention at Philadelphia honoring Mrs J Viewegen who had campaigned tirelessly for recognition for ROCKVILLE since 1922″

Rockville was founded in 1795 by a group of British settlers as a small trading post on the Potomac River. The town rapidly grew, becoming an important stop on the Underground Railroad and a center of education and politics. In 1812, Rockville became the capital of what would become Maryland. After three decades of growth, Rockville declined in importance during the 19th century but regained some prominence following World War II when it became home to the Army's Central Command Headquarters. Today, Rockville is a vibrant community with many cultural attractions and businesses.

The town grew rapidly and by 1819 had a population of 581 people. By 1800, Rockville had two stores and nine houses. In 1828, the town became an incorporated municipality with a population of 1,500 people. It experienced rapid growth during the 1830s as farmers established themselves here and new industry developed such as limestone quarrying and wagon manufacturing. In 1865, the Town of Rockville merged with neighboring Fairfax County to form the newly created Montgomery County. As part of this merger, Rockville lost its status as a municipality and became an unincorporated community with a population of 100 people.
