In 1840 (), when Prince George's County was created from parts of Prince George's County east of the Anacostia River (), part of what is now Alexandria () served as part of Takomas Ferry Landing on the Potomac River (). This landing provided transportation links between Alexandria and Takomas Ferry Landing on the river bed (present day Northeast Middle Street) until 1862 when navigation through present day Washington D.C.–Northern Virginia–Baltimore bridge opened(). The village started off small with just 10 residents () but rapidly grew due to easy access to water supplies (), cheap land on credit (),and easy access to education (). In 1865(), when Arlington Heights was established adjacent to Takoma Village (), much larger settlements began popping up throughout Prince George's County (). As more people moved into these areas,,the village slowly lost population until it ceased operations entirely in 1925 (). A few weeks after his death in 1925,,John Crouch’s son Nicholas bought back all remaining property from Nicholas’s stepmother for $4000 dollars cash purchase (). Nicholas then founded what would become known as Nicholas Brothers Properties Incorporated (NNPI). At this time,.takomas park also became known simply as “Nicholasville” or simply “Nicholas estates”
