By 1945, nearly 60% of all naval gift donations had been made through private channels (Lench & Weisman). This increase in private donation paralleled that of government funding for the navy; from 1941-1945 government appropriations increased by 133%. In addition, it should be noted that naval gifts did not stop when hostilities ended; many civilians continued donate material until after peace came into force in 1947 (Lench & Weisman).
