The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of deploying gifts to its citizens. The city was overwhelmed with supplies arriving from overseas, so the USAAF sent a squadron of Boeing P-47 Thunderbolts air defense fighters to provide defense. Pontiac, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Ottawa County. The population was 57,811 as of 2010, making it the seventh-largest city in Michigan and its second-largest municipality by population after Detroit. Pontiac is home to two universities--the University of Michigan and Wayne State University--and more than 40 businesses, including Ford Motor Company, General Motors Co., Chrysler Group LLC, Lockheed Martin Missile Systems Inc., and Wixom Corporation. The area now known as Pontiac was first settled by French colonists in 17 Le Moyne Township on the Rouge River in 1788. In 1834, when Awesome Lake became part of Lansing County, Pontiac became a part of Lansing County as well. In 1847, when Lansing County broke up into multiple districts for political reasons,[1] Pontiac remained within Ottawa County until 1851 when it became its own civil parish.[2] The city proper was founded on December 12th, 1871 by James A. Kelley with land donated from John Ritchie (owner of what is now Midland),[3] following his victory over William Tecumseh Sherman's Union army at Battle of Gettysburg.[4][5] At that time there were only a few hundred residents living in downtown Pontiac; most people lived on either side of Woodward Avenue which ran through the heart of town center. By 1928 there were over 2500 residents living in downtown Pontiac and many more located around Woodward Avenue and adjacent areas such as Gratiot Avenue and Washtenaw Road. By 1959 downtown Pontiac had grown to include 1 million square feet (1006 m2) floor space,[6][7][8] making it one of America's largest cities with an urban core consisting mostly or entirely within 10 miles (16 km)of major metropolitan areas[9][10]. On November 6th 1961 local officials voted overwhelmingly to annex neighboring Oakland City because they felt that their economic development would be greater than that offered by any other city east of Flint Hills.[11][12][13] Oakland City officially annexed onto Pontiac on December 1st 1971,[14][15] becoming one full municipality with a population over 1000000 people strong. On May 22nd 1995 Mayor Maurice Hinchey announced that due to budgetary limitations both municipalities would merge into one larger entity under the name "Pontiac Community Schools".[16][17] This merger failed to take place due to lack thereof agreement between both municipalities about common governance issues such as school funding allocation/distribution etc.; this led to several high profile lawsuits culminating with the establishment of a separately elected board responsible for all aspects associated with municipal government within each jurisdiction - stillbirths notwithstanding![18])
The USAF deployed gift history to various locations in the world during the years 1945-1948. These deployments were done as part of the war effort in order to distribute supplies and equipment to military members located far away from home. In some cases, these Gift History deployments were remote or even overseas. Some of the Gift History deployments took place during World War II while others took place during the Vietnam War. Regardless of which period a Gift History deployment occurred, it was an important part of USAF culture at that time and still is today. The USAF has continued to deploy gift history throughout its history since then, most recently conducting a deployment to Afghanistan in late 2014.
The U.S. Air Force deployed gift history to the global community in 2013 with the creation of the Global Gift History Program. The program is designed to promote and develop relationships between USAF personnel and their military colleagues around the world. Through the program, USAF members collect gift histories from individuals or groups they interact with on a regular basis while abroad. This data is used to create unique giftee profiles for each individual or group involved in a given mission or project. These profiles are then shared with other units and organizations within the USAF through social media platforms and newsletters.
Pontiac, Michigan is a small town in the Cass CountyDistrict of Michigan. The population was 9,592 at the 2000 census and 9,848 as of 2010. Pontiac has a history dating back to 1837 when it was established as a trading post on the Ottawa River. The town became a center for transportation and manufacturing in the late 19th century due to its location at the junction of several major trails leading to Chicago and Detroit. Pontiac's economic success led to controversy over its zoning laws which kept production away from downtown while allowing autoworkers access to abandoned factories near town. The issue came to light during the Rodney King riots when black motorcyclists were stopped by police in Pontiac while riding their bikes. Despite this notoriety, Pontiac continued to grow economically until 1971 when it lost its status as an industrial center and fell behind other rural communities within Cass County. By 2000, however, Pontiac had regained some of its former prosperity through business development outside of its traditional industries such as agriculture and construction. Parkland Hospitality - one of Pontiac's traditional employers - has opened a luxury hotel in downtownPontiac since 2002 and plans are underway for another hotel complex also located in downtown that will accommodate up to 600 guests per night beginning next year Today, Pontiac remains an important community with strong ties to both local businesses and regional economies across southern Michigan It is home to many cultural attractions including two historical theaters – one built in 1904 by Ford Motor Company president Henry Ford II himself – as well as several museums including the Eastern Michigan University Museum of Art As well, there are multiple restaurants available throughout town including several Chain Reaction Eateries which have been featured on national television Additionally, there is significant retail development taking place within walking distance of most residents' homes with stores such as Dunkin' Donuts coming online majorly in recent years .
Pontiac was founded in 1814 by George Washington Pontiac and his brothers, John and James. The first Pontiac car was made in 1815. In 1824, the company became a subsidiary of the Detroit automakers General Motors. In 1928, GM merged with Chrysler to form United States Radiator and Automotive Company. General Motors purchased Chrysler's assets in 2006. The current name for the corporation is Chevrolet
