The United States Air Force (USAF) deployed gift-giving to the people of Sault Ste. Marie in 1945 as part of World War IIOperation Christmas Tree. From the first time American airmen joined the RAF in World War II to present day, the USAF has always been a major player in delivering humanitarian aid and support to those in need. This paper will provide an overview of USAF Gift History, from its origins during World War II through current operations around the world. The USAAF was founded on August 17th 1941 when three groups of American combat pilots - The Flying Tigers (from China), The Skyhawks (of California), and The Eagles (of New York) - formed an aerial unit known as "The 3rd Fighter Squadron". On December 8th 1941 - just over two months after Pearl Harbor - Japan attacked America with her first attack on Wake Island which resulted in the death of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. With America engaged in war against Japan, much attention was focused on Hawaii which was under military occupation by America's ally, Great Britain. In response to this emergency situation, General Curtis LeMay ordered his forces at Wheeler Army Airfield near Boise Idaho to form the 1st Tactical Air Command (TAC)-the first peacetime command structure within the United States Air Forces-on February 15th 1942 under Major General Carl Spaatz who would later lead USAFE into WWII. This new organization consisted of ten squadrons each made up of 10 aircraft-the largest peacetime force ever assembled by airmen! It also included 11oth Bombardment Wing stationed at bases all over North America including Spokane Washington; Grand Forks ND; Amherst NY; Ellsworth AFB ME; Minot ND; Wendover AFB UT; Wichita KS; Elmendorf AFB AK; Barksdale AFB LA-all strategic bombardment wings located primarily within or near metropolitan areas! On March 2nd 1942 Major General Spaatz activated XX Bomber Command which would be responsible for strategic bombing attacks against selected targets inside Japan using large bombers such as Boeing B-29s! Beginning on April 6th 1942 XX Bomber Command began targeting cities throughout Japan with raids that led to widespread fires that destroyed大量的建築物，killed thousands of people and injured millions more! On October 24th 1942 XXX Bomber Command launched Operation Gomorrah which accounted for 90% of all Japanese bomber losses during WWII! During this campaign Allied Tank units were deployed behind enemy lines assisting Strategic Bombers while Japanese tanks patrolled adjacent battlefields looking for these vulnerable targets! Allies also employed deception techniques designed to mislead their opponents into thinking they were attacking vital infrastructure instead of military objectives! As part as part your duties as Headquarters Section Civil Affairs Commander –situated at Offutt Army Airfield Nebraska –you were also directly responsible for providing Operation Santa Clausbring Christmas presents directly to Christian families living inside Japan courtesy of your squadron's officer/members assigned thereto!! It is interesting to note that manymission commanders had specific personal relationships with various regions or communities visited thereby enabling them maximum impact upon their respective populations!! After successfully concluding World War II on September 2nd 1945 Major General Spaatz assumed command of USAFE effective then same date!!! Herein we have today's modern day USAF!" The town sprang up around this time and soon became an important stop on the Mackinac River trade route connecting Northwestern America with Russia and Asia. During World War II, many skilled Canadians served in our military including many engineers who built key war facilities such as Fort Ontario and Canadian Forces Headquarters at Kingston. After the war, many people returned to their homes in Sault Ste. Marie while others began businesses here such as a grocery store, bank, doctor’s office and clothing store. This boom period came to an end when manufacturing left during the 1970s due to automation and global recession which have impacted every sector of society in recent decades.
