Sault Ste. Marie coffee history can be traced back to 1870 when a group of entrepreneurs in the town formed the Sault Coffee Company. The company began production of coffee beans and coffee related products, including Teton Coffee, which is still produced today. In 1876, the company relocated its operations to what is now the city's Market Square. In 1915, the Sault Coffee Company merged with two other companies to form The Great Lakes Coffee Company. The merger led to increased production and sales of coffee products throughout Michigan and Canada. In 1978, The Great Lakes Coffee Company was sold to Safeway Inc.
Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and is the county seat of Sault Ste. Marie County. The population was 847 at the 2010 census, making it the largest municipality in both Sault Ste. Marie and Bay County. The name "Sault" means "fortress." The first known inhabitants of what is now Sault Ste.Marie were Algonquian-speaking Native Americans who settled here during the early 17th century AD. They built a series of small villages before coming to an agreement with French traders in 1609 that allowed them to build Fort Michilimackinac on Pointe aux Meadows (now downtown) as part of a trade concession which also included fur trading rights from Canada west to Havana, Cuba. In 1837, after land grants were given by US President Andrew Jackson to groups of Upper Great Lakes settlers, including some from Detroit,agin appointed Captain John Pesto as the first mayor of Sault Ste. Marie and served until 1840 when James Worthy took office following Jackson's victory in the presidential election that year over War Hawk Jesse Jameson's Republican Party ticket represented by Henry Clay Frick and Winfield Scott Hancock The town began its growth when lumber mills opened up around 1900; today there are more than 20 businesses operating within its boundaries employing nearly 1,000 people. In 1916, construction started on Mackinac Island Naval Air Station which would be home to America's first jet fighter squadron; however it never saw combat due to World War IIoccupation restrictions placed upon Canada by Allied forces The city has seen many technological advancements over the years including: Edison electric lights being installed in 1915; water softening products being developed in 1936; television sets becoming available for purchase/rentals beginning in 1951; microwave ovens becoming available for purchase beginning in 1957; digital musicaning starting in 1988 Today there are several cultural landmarks surviving from this time such as: First United Methodist Church (founded 1855); State Capitol building (1906), Mackinac Island Naval Air Station Memorial Museum (1994), Roman Catholic Cathedral (1892), University of Notre Dame School Of Dental Medicine(1992), and Chapelle des Filles de la Madeleine mission house (1849).

The city of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan was founded in 1814 by French fur traders as a trading post on the Upper Great Lakes. The city became a major center for the fur trade and its economy grew rapidly during the 19th century. In 1867, Sault Ste. Marie became part of Canada and developed into an important cultural and educational center. Today, Sault Ste. Marie is one of the most heavily populated cities in Michigan and has a strong industrial base that continues to produce many jobs today.
The Sault Ste. Marie area was first populated by the Huron people about 4,000 years ago. In 1834, the United States acquired control of what is now Michigan from Great Britain and established the Michigan Territory. The first government official to be appointed in this territory was Colonel John Silliman, who arrived on July 1, 1834. The first steamboat to travel between Detroit and the captured Fort Mackinac was the brigantine USS Constitution, which made its voyage on October 24, 1835. On November 16th of that year, a group of Native Americans led by Chief Tecumseh attacked a party of U.S. soldiers travelling near present-day Mackinac Island; the attack failed because no shots were fired and no Indians were killed or wounded. In 1840, with American control over much of northern America increasing at an alarming rate, President James K. Polk ordered General Anthony Wayne to march on Sault Ste Marie and capture it as part of a larger campaign called "Operation Long Main." On December 8th of that year General Wayne reached Sault Ste Marie but found it abandoned due to lack of food and troops being deployed elsewhere in order to take advantage of American gunboats patrolling Lake Superior for British fishing fleets; he withdrew his forces two days later after learning that British reinforcements had arrived at Fort George Harper on the island opposite Sault Ste Marie. Canadian forces under Lieutenant-Governor Sir John Ayrton promptly recaptured fortifications overlooking the city from French Loyalists under Commandant Goulet; this action effectively ended American military occupation of Sault SteMarie for good within six months following its capture (although small numbers continued intermittently garrisoning the city until 1849). This event also marked one-time use by both allies against each other as Canadian forces recaptured strategically important posts along Lake Superior during their ongoing rivalry with Great Britain (the only time such operations occurred up until then). Following its successful recapture by Canadian forces in November 1850s various activities took place in and around SaultSteMarie including educational aspirations aimed at promoting Christianity among local aboriginal populations through missionary work; these efforts were eventually discontinued after Indian Agent Pontiac's Rebellion erupted in 1855 resulting in large numbers dead or missing amidst violence throughout northwestern Canada culminating with Pontiac's ultimate execution outside Toronto seven years later amid public outcry across North America over what became known as "The Ghost Dance". The area gradually reverted back to pre-1850 civilian population following various outbreaks/uprising leading up to 1860 when all traces of Aboriginal populations vanished utterly away from what is now known as Canada leaving behind only evidence remaining from early 19th century settlement periods
