Constable Dixon had purchased the rifle during an event celebrating Canada's centennial year and presented it to Mayor Hickey on behalf of the townspeople. The rifle has been kept inside the city hall ever since! Another gift given by a resident was a set of bicycle pedals which were part of an almost $500 donation made towards purchasing new bike equipment for the department by Mrs Jane MacLean in 1908. In 1912, Constables Arthur Jolliffe and Percy Dickson received bicycles from Mr and Mrs Maurice Maher from Stittsville Township for use as part of their patrols within our community... these bikes still remain operational today! In 1926, Sir John Aird awarded Sergeant Frank Nicholls his commission as a sergeant-major with rank of brigadier-general (the rank then held by members of both Canadian Armed Forces). This gift represented great distinction for Sgt Nicholls who had previously served with distinction with Battalion No 1 Toronto Rifles during World War I! A 1923 donation led to the purchase of two motorcycles - one for each constable - which were used until they were replaced in 1951 by newer models! In 1938, officers received radios for their personal use - this is one reason why most donations are now stored away inside city hall! Some very special gifts have been bestowed upon policemen over time - such as patches featuring images or likenesses of famous personalities such as Einstein or Churchill! It is truly amazing that these artifacts can still be seen today sitting prominently inside city hall – testament to how much love and care has been put into providing these unique items exclusively for law enforcement officials throughout our country!

Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan is a small city in the U.S. state of Michigan on the eastern shore of Lake Huron. The population was 17,584 at the 2010 census and is the county seat for Sault Ste. Marie County. The name comes from French "sault" meaning "fortification" and "ste." because it was originally part of Upper Canada until 1867 when it became part of Ontario. The first European settlement in what is now Sault Ste Marie was made by Pierre-Joseph de Montcalm, Sieur de L'Isle-aux-Moines, on July 8, 1796 as one of his two raids into Georgian Bay to secure food supplies for his army fighting in the American Revolutionary War against Great Britain. He named the place after Princess Louise d'Orléans, daughter of King Louis XVI of France and wife of Prince Edward Fenton (later Duke of Kent), who had helped supply Montcalm's forces with military stores during their campaign across North America from Quebec City to Albany, New York. L'Isle-aux-Moines was abandoned in 1800 due to lowland flooding which destroyed most buildings; however, some remnants survive as a reminder that early residents built this fortification on land that would later become Sault SteMarie Harbour (now called Port Arthur). The Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan area was first inhabited by the Algonquian-speaking Miami tribe in the late 1500s. The tribe's Caddo people arrived in 1636 and began to live around present-day Sault Ste. Marie. In 1805, the United States acquired territory along the Great Lakes from Great Britain, and in 1814, Treaty of Ghent ended British control of Canada. The following year, America acquired Lake Superior from France as part of that treaty. In 1825, a group of American fur traders founded a post at Sault Ste. Marie on the southern tip of Lake Superior. They named it Fort Haida because they thought it resembled an iceberg that had been sighted off Haida Gwaii on Vancouver Island during their visit there two years earlier.
