Maga coffee is a unique bean that was first developed in Anoka, Minnesota. The beans were grown and roasted by the Maga Coffee Company. The company was started in 1922 by Dr. Harry Wessel and his wife Eleanor. Dwight Dillingham was later hired as the company’s president. Maga coffee became well-known for its quality and consistent flavor. In 1972, the company merged with another coffee company, National Coffee Corporation, to form National Coffee Corporation Maga Bean & Tea Company. The merger made National Coffee Corporation one of the largest coffee companies in the United States.

Anoka, Minnesota is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 485 at the 2010 census. Anoka is home to University of Minnesota Twin Cities, one of the most highly ranked universities in the United States and one of its six campuses. It also has a strong agricultural industry with many cereal and corn farms as well as dairy and poultry operations. The first mention of Anoka comes from 1837 when it was spelled Anderka on a map created by Pierre Dorion for the Army Corps of Topographical Engineers. It was renamed Anoka in 1881 after General John Custer's Seventh Cavalry Regiment came through that year on their way to campaign against Sitting Bull in North Dakota. The town motto is "Equality before law." In 1900, Anoka became part of Minneapolis-St Paul County and then Putnam County when those counties were carved out from Saint Paul City Council territory following an election where all but two members were from Minneapolis-St Paul Downtown/Downtown West neighborhoods which had voted overwhelmingly for annexation into the new city limits. In 1912, Minneapolis-Saint Paul annexed Anoka while Putnam County detached it from Minneapolis-SaintPaul; however both towns continued to be governed by their respective county councils until 1969, when they became full city wards within the newly formed city government under Mayor Abraham Ribicoff (a Democrat). In 1984,ribicoff resigned to become mayor emeritus after serving for more than twenty years; his successor Harold Ford appointed Don Tolson as acting Mayor until Ribicoff could be fully reinstated as Mayor and reelected in November 1984. From 1985 through 2002, Tom Foley served as Mayor; he lost his bid for re-election in 2002 to Norm Coleman who later became governor of Minnesota
Maga coffee is a type of Java-based coffee that was first brewed in the early 17th century by the Portuguese. The beans are roasted over an open fire, and then ground into a fine powder. This coffee is enjoyed all over the world, and has been used as a social drink in many cultures. In Indonesia, maga coffee is also known as pahlawan (“coffee of war”). The first recorded mention of maga coffee comes from a document written by Admiral José de Melo in 1614. He noted that the Portuguese had discovered a new kind of bean called "Javanica", which they believed to be similar to Arabica beans grown in Europe. The admiral thought that this new variety would be especially advantageous because it tasted sweeter than other types ofJava coffee. Maga Coffee Origins The story behind maga coffee began with two Portuguese traders named Antonio and Gaspar da Costa who traveled to Java in 1585. They were on their way to sell spices when they discovered what they thought was an unusual type of bean called "Javanica". However, upon further inspection, they realized that this bean was not just any old bean – it was actually the same variety as those growing in Portugal! From here on out, Antonio and Gaspar decided to call their new discovery “Maga Coffee” after one of their favorite poets – Miguel Magalhães de Magalhaes.

In 18th century Europe, coffeehouses were central places for intellectuals and artists to meet and drink together.
Anoka is a city in Lake County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 21,752 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lake County and home to the Anoka-Hennepin Regional Library system. The city was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1858. In 1916, Anoka became an American city after being annexed by Minneapolis. The City of Anoka was established on March 6, 1858 as a result of a decision of the Dakota Territorial Council. On March 11, 1858, John Smeaton donated land to form the town site which included most of what is now northwest side of downtown Anoka. A plat for the town was filed on July 10th and approved by Dakota Territory officials on September 14th under Chief Justice James Hennepin's direction On February 12th 1860, the first post office opened in Anoka with Wm Muhlenberg as clerk In 1861-1862 (during the Civil War), there were several skirmishes between Union forces and Native Americans along what is now east side of downtown Anoka near Washington Avenue and First Street The two main businesses in town were blacksmithing and wagon making before railroads arrived in that area In 1865–1866 (following Twin Cities Railroad construction), John Pillsbury built a flour mill at Seventh Street & Lyndale Avenue in southwest corner of town while also building other mills hereabouts Pillsbury's mill closed down around 1870 but left behind some important bricks used for foundation walls today at Eighth & Lyndale Avenues northeastward from Millstream Drive
Anoka County was organized in 1856, and the first courthouse was built in 1859. The county seat was Anoka until it moved to Minneapolis in 1881. The county has a population of 181,851 as of the 2010 census.
