The Brooklyn Park Army National Guard was activated on July 23, 1908. The unit was organized from the Minnesota Infantry Regiment of the Union army and redesignated the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, National Guard of Dakota Territory on December 10, 1912. The brigade served in World War I as part of the 3rd Infantry Division and then moved to Fort Snelling in Minnesota where it became nucleus for reactivation of MN National Guard units in November 1939. In 1941, the brigade became an infantry regiment when it was redesignated as the 9th Infantry Brigade (National Guards) with headquarters at Brooklyn Park. In October 1944, following organized service in Europe during World War II aspart of VIII Corps under General George C Marshall's United States Forces-European Theater command (USFETEAC), activationOK included detachments from MN and WI Service Armies also serving in France as part of occupation forces until May 1945; these troops were later reorganized into Armor Force XXIV Corps which remained active untilactivation on August 15 by Major General Omar Bradley's Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) during Operation Overlord. initially designated XII Corps but soon reassigned to Tenth Army Group under COMBAT US armored corps commander Lieutenant General Holland Smith; this organization provided supplies and logistic support for XXXIX Panzer Corps attacking Normandy while Ninth Army attacked across Belgium/ Netherlands; battalion sized armor divisions frontally defended various major highway crossings throughout theater against enemy tank and artillery attack; service members received numerous awards including two Distinguished Unit Awards post-war. On April 14, 1946 7th Specialized Battalion activated at Brooklyn Park providing close air support ground assault Troops engaging Japanese forces near Nagasaki Airport during fighting leading up to atomic bombing there that destroyed city center killing approximately 100 people according to military records Inactivated on September 30, 1949 when elements were returned home

The name comes from a small bay on the north side of town where they first landed. The community has since grown and today includes over 100 homes and businesses. Brooklyn Park is known for its annual deer hunting season which starts in late September and runs through early December. There are also several events throughout the year including parties, golf tournaments, family fun days, as well as library book sales. The village elementary school serves residents from Borough High School which closed in 2009 after more than 50 years of service to students in the borough. Residents now attend schools within the Rochester City School District which offers grades 7-12 along with some special needs services such as autism programming for sixth grade students who have difficulty talking or walking to class because of their impairment

Brooklyn Park is part of the Brooklyn Park–St. Paul–Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was organized as a village on December 29, 1872 by settlers from Brooklyn and Englewood, New Jersey who had immigrated toMinnesota during the late 1800s. The name "Brooklyn Park" originated from a vision of Dr. John Smeaton, an Englishman who had settled in what is now Minneapolis in 1858, while he was serving as pastor of St John's Lutheran Church located in present-day Brooklyn Park. In 1892, residents petitioned for incorporation as a city and were granted this request on February 6th by Mayor George Tilden. On January 12th 1898 the first municipality meeting ever held in Minneapolis resulted in passage of an ordinance granting status to Brooklyn Park as a city with its own police department and government buildings including a courthouse and jail. On July 1st 1909, following annexation by Saint Paul County,Brooklyn Park became one of five cities within that county along with Anoka- capturing much acreage which continues to be annexed into the city each year since then making it one of largest annexations within city limits anywhere in the United States! In 1916 efforts were made to move the downtown business district (later known as Midtown) out of line with other suburban neighborhoods so that it could be developed closer to rail lines but this failed due to strong objection from local businesses and streetside residents concerned about losing their livelihoods should development occur beyond their property boundaries
