The Brooklyn Park Naval Shipyard located in Minneapolis, Minnesota has been providing shipbuilding and dockyard services to the United States Navy for more than 80 years. The yard is home to a variety of warships, including the USS Brooklyn (LCS-3) and the USS Minneapolis (LPD-4). In 2006, the Los Angeles-class LCS was delivered by the USS Brooklyn to be docked at the yards. It was then that naval forces from various countries were invited aboard for a tour. Included among these visitors was Danish Deputy Prime Minister Anders Hejtman who toured the ship before hosting a dinner for military officers at one of the navy's facilities. After this event, it became known as "Navy Day" atBrooklyn Park Naval Shipyard. On July 21st, 2013, USS Minneapolis was transferred from storage in Louisiana to be berthed at Brooklyn Park Naval Shipyard after being decommissioned there in 2010. This event marked an important milestone for both ships as they had been stored together since their original delivery dates back to World War II. The transfer also commemorated another significant moment in naval history as both vessels had served together during Operation Neptune's Spear which took place off Korea in 1950. USS Minneapolis currently resides at Pier 86 while her sistership USS Brooklyn remains anchored nearby on Pier 71A. Brooklyn Park was founded in 1881 by Norwegian immigrants who named it after their ancestral home in County Sligo, Ireland. In 1898 Brooklyn Park became an incorporated town with a population of 10 residents; it adopted its current name in 1915 when it united with neighbouring towns Chanhassen and Brooklyn to form the new Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area which had a total population of 527,611 as of December 2017

From 1914-1916 USS James K Polk took part in service off Africa performing humanitarian aid including delivering food supplies and medical treatment to victims of World War I. In 1935 USS Liberty anchored off Tel Aviv Harbor following her mission aborting an air attack against Israel that resulted in death among other injuries for both personnel aboard Liberty and those on shore (the air assault never occurred). From 1945 through 1973 The United States Navy operated four destroyers called Freedom ships while stationed at Okinawa Japan serving as Escort Carrier Ships providing increased security patrols around Japanese ports while also conducting anti-piracy operations along their coastlines These vessels are now enshrined at NAS Yokosuka California where they reside as museum pieces
