As coffee became popular in America, it spread to Europe, where it began to be produced in larger quantities. One of the first coffee roasters in the United States was founded in 1847 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his brother-in-law, Aaron French. The company’s first product was a blend of Arabic and Italian beans. In 1853, Conte moved the business to Edina and opened a roastery and Cafe named for himself and his wife, Eliza Conte. The couple operated the cafe until their death in 1912. The first espresso machine was created by Angelo Petrini in 1898. Petrini’s machine made two types of espresso: lungo (long) and corto (short). Corto espresso is considered the precursor to modern Italian espresso drinks. In 1906, Giovanni Frattini built a three-barrel gas engine espresso machine that could produce up to 24 ounces per minute (700 milliliters per minute). This device allowed for increased production rates for Frattini’s cafes throughout Italy. In 1924, Angelo Petrini’s son Emilio purchased the business from his father. From 1925 through 1928, Emilio ran Frattini Coffee Roasting Company under license from Pernod Ricard Corporation. During this time period, he also developed an unsuccessful effort to produce Java Coffee Beans which were sold commercially as well as roasted at home.. In 1970–1971 Luigi Braidi succeeded Emilio Petrini as CEO of Frattini Coffee Roasting Company after he left Pernod Ricard Corporation.. Edina, Minnesota is a small town in the heart of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It has a population of around 9,000 people and it is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in Michigan. The town was founded in 1873 by Norwegian immigrants who came to North America to work on farms. Today, Edina is known for its apple orchards and potatoes, as well as its rich history and culture. The first Europeans to arrive in Edina were Norwegians. They founded a farmstead on what is now Main Street in 1873. The settlers were mostly farmers and their early years were difficult because they had to travel long distances to get food supplies. However, over time the Norwegians became successful and built a large home on Main Street that remains standing today. In addition to their farming endeavors, some of the early settlers also started businesses in nearby towns such as Grosse Pointe Farms and Traverse City. This helped contribute to Edina’s growth as an unremarkable town until World War II when it suddenly went through multiple waves of immigration: from Poles, Russians, Czechoslovaks, Slovaks, Yugoslavs and Germans. As a result of this influx, there are more than 30 different nationalities living in Edina today – making it one of the most diverse communities in Michigan! Today, Edina’s economy revolves around its agricultural sector with many local businesses catering to customers from all over North America. Edina, Minnesota is a town in Worth County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 827 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from the Edina Township in Stroudsburg Township, Dakota Territory and it was named after General James H. Edina who fought in the American Civil War as a colonel on the Union side. The first settlers to Edina were farmers who arrived around 1871. They began raising corn and wheat, but soon realized that they needed more land to grow crops and build homes. They homesteaded some of the land that they acquired through purchase or condemnation proceedings during the early years of settlement in what is now Worth County. In 1901, when Worth County was organized, Edina became its capital. From 1903 to 1907, Edina served as host city for the World's Columbian Exposition (1893), which opened in Chicago metropolitan area and attracted over two million people from all over the world. Many residents of Edina also helped organized various aspects of that exposition including musicanship contests, ballooning demonstrations and pageantry displays such as "The Pageant of Life." In 1907, when WWI began with Europe embroiled in war and America struggling economically, many residents decided to leave their homes for good due to economic hardship. However, many remained until after WWII when things improved somewhat following World War II brought about greater prosperity for both countries In 1957-1958 local officials constructed new municipal buildings which included a library facility on Main Street called "Pioneer Library" while still others renovated an existing schoolhouse into a modern day high school building known today as "EdINA High School". By 1960 there were only 159 residents living within township limits while by 1990 there had grown to 439 individuals residing within township boundaries with an estimated population growth rate of approximately 3%. As wintertime approaches these totals are expected to decrease due to freezes/thaws along with increased vehicular traffic which could lead either way depending on conditions
