Edina, MN is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, located about 20 miles south of Minneapolis and 25 miles north of St. Paul. As of the 2010 census, the population was 565, up from 446 as of the 2000 Census. The name "Edina" was given to it by John Hennepin County pioneers in 1854 after they noted an area with tall trees near the present-day Edina Village. The first post office in Edina was established on February 17, 1855, and operated until 1909. The first township was organized on October 1, 1858 and named for General George Armstrong Custer who had been killed at Little Bighorn during the Indian Wars two years earlier. The current city boundaries were set off by Bloomington Township when it merged with Hennepin County on January 1, 1998. According to one source: "Edina's heyday may have ended long ago but its spirit never does." In fact, over time much has happened here that has made an impression on people throughout America - both positively and negatively - including music (the town hosted country music star Hank Williams Sr.'s famous funeral service), auto manufacturing ( Chrysler built its headquarters here in 1922; Ford followed soon afterwards), education (Minnesota State University Moorhead opened its doors in 1923), technology (Rochester Air Force Base is just east of town) and business ventures such as Microsoft's original campus here and eBay's pivot from online auctioneer to ecommerce giant more than 20 years later."

Edina, Minnesota is a small town in the northeast corner of Minnesota. It was founded by Norwegian farmers in 1851 and has been continuously inhabited since. The town’s history is intertwined with that of its namesake, Edina (née Hansen), who played an important role in early American settler life. Born in 1819 to a family of farmworkers, Edina worked her way up through the ranks of her local society. She became involved with the Methodist church and served as president of its board of trustees from 1858 to 1862. In 1861, she married John A. Simonson, one of the earliest settlers in the town. The couple would have six children and eventually moved away from Edina during the Civil War to avoid conflict. They returned after Reconstruction had ended and were instrumental in restarting the community’s economy. After World War II, Edina experienced significant growth as a bedroom community for Minneapolis-St Paul metropolitan area residents. However, it began to lose its importance following suburban development on both sides of the Twin Cities River—a trend that persisted until recent decades. Today, Edina still retains some unique features that make it an interesting place to visit—such as its wide range of historical museums and attractions related to agriculture and pioneer life
Edina, Minnesota is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The name comes from the Dakota Sioux word edi-maa (meaning "place of grasslands"). The first settler in what is now Edina was Emmett Sorenson in 1858. He and his wife Scandinavian named their land "Emmett's Prairie". The town site was surveyed by George Armstrong Custer on March 25, 1865 and named after him as Fort Snelling after General Snelling's headquarters near Minneapolis. Fort Snelling was abandoned in 1867 when it became clear that Indian Territory would not be ceded to the United States under the Treaty of Paris which ended the American Civil War. In 1868, Isaac Nibley platted what is now downtown Edina on land he owned northwest of present day First Street and Seventh Avenue North. In 1870, Jens Jensen purchased 300 acres northeast of downtown from Nibley for $2 per acre ($40 per square mile). This property eventually became one of the most important tracts in CentralMinnesota due to its location within a few miles of both Minneapolis and St. Paul as well as its accessibility by wagon road and horseback transportation then available; this made it an ideal site for farming purposes with good access to water resources such as rivers and marshes for irrigation purposes In 1896, John Wittell built a large mill on Third Street between Sixth Avenue North and Seventh Avenue North; this mill continued to operate until 1949 when it was replaced by a new plant operated by Zenith Paper Products Incorporated today known as MTS Energy Partners LP based out of Marshalltown, Iowa located next door to Interstate 35W just south of I-35N exit #244 off US 169 near Bad Axe Lake while surface streets retain their original names: 3rd Ave., 6th Ave., 7th Ave., Eighth Ave., Ninth Ave., Tenth Ave.. After World War II there were several changes taking place within central Minnesota including rural flight across state lines leading to spur development around Twin Cities along I-94 corridor while other towns/ neighborhoods went throughsimilar changes Examples include Anoka Township going from farmsteads to apartments post WWII until becoming an established city during 1960s suburban growth following war baby boom ; Rice City going from small farmers' markets throughout the 1920s until 1950s before becoming an established suburb developed along I-35W corridor
