Darling, Jr., commanding general of the Marine Forces Reserve Command. The purpose of the website is to document the history of Marines who have deployments that include gifts from civilians or military personnel. It also includes information on when and where these deployments took place, as well as pictures and videos documenting the occasion. Edina, Minnesota is a town in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census, down from 10,512 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Hennepin County and part of the Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlement in what is now Edina was made by fur traders in 1824 as a trading post on an abandoned Sioux Trail through this area. On July 3, 1828, John Atherton established a small Post Office here as Prairie du Chien near present day Elk River Road and US 12/Mankato Road (now MN Highway 21). It wasn't until 1840 that David Thompson's Pacific Mail route created traffic so much that he decided to move his Post Office to what is now Edina because it would be closer to his business interests in Canada. In 1849–50 surveyor George Armstrong explored and mapped this area for the United States government which named it White Earth Reserve after Chief Red Cloud's band of Ojibwe Indians who had converted to Christianity about that time (the name "Eddie" honorably refers to one white settler). In 1873–74 when Minneapolis began its construction process as an incorporated city, Edina became its first municipal limits with 5 residents and 1 employee (founder Wm. Egan) serving as Mayor during its early years; however membership grew slowly until 1903 when city annexation resulted in incorporation with 11 residents and 2 employees (Mayor Edwin Jukes and City Manager Harry Herrington); current structure including Mayor Pete Kappenhofer having been appointed by Governor Jesse Ventura on November 8th 2002 having served since then “as interim mayor” pending new election results effective January 2003 pursuant toMinnesota Statute 603A(1)). Governor Dayton issued proclamation dated December 22nd 1959 designating Edina-Hennepin County Municipality subject thereto; proclaimed by Honorable Edward Condon Commissioner of Public Works & Highways etc.. On October 15th 1961 citizens of Minneapolis & St Paul met at Main Street Schoolhouse corner Second Avenue South for organizational meeting purposes under direction of Mr Homer Senter who Chairmansequently organized Committee for setting up Municipal Government within newly designated Municipality which adopted Resolution calling for Establishment Of Municipal Government Thereon effective immediately with all Council meetings held at Masonic Hall located at Third Street West between Fifth Avenue North & Sixth Avenue South preceded by Executive Session every third Friday evening beginning February 4th 1962 thru November 30th 1966 when Legislation providing For such Meeting being passed thereby creating present day Municipal Government including Council Chambers located on Third Street West between Fifth Avenue North & Sixth Avenue South without prior Executive Session being held therein since then
