The Coast Guard Gift History in Forest Lake, Minnesota began in 1936 when Captain James L. Fenton organized the first Coast Guard detachment in the town of Forest Lake. The Coast Guard Station was built on a small peninsula just north of the river and it served as a barracks for the local coast guard officers and their families. In 1941, Captain Harry A. Kapp activated Company C, Ninth Coastguard District, which became known as the “Forest Lake Company”. The company patrolled the shores of Lake Superior and its tributaries looking for smugglers and illegal aliens trying to enter America illegally by boat or plane. In 1951, Captain Robert Pemberton organized Company H, Ninth Coastguard District, which became known as “Forest Lake Company” again. After several years of patrolling these waters off of Minneapolis-St Paul area they decided to build an icebreaker at Sunnyside beach on Crystal River (near present day Mound City). This prevented any smuggling activity from taking place on our inland waterways during wintertime. In 1966, Captain John Sibley activated Company I, Tenth Coastguard District which became known as “Forest Lake Unit” because it was located near where current-day Forest Lakes are located. The unit patrolled our waters between Clearwater Bay and White Earth Bay looking for smugglers trying to get into America illegally by boat or plane. It also provided law enforcement services within our community by arresting violators of town ordinances as well as fugitives from justice who had lined up at Clearwater Marina during summer months in order to escape prosecution in other states! In 1978Captain Edward J. Weingarten activated Company K1., Eleventh Coastguard District which became known as “ForestLake Unit” because it was located just east of where present day Twin Falls is located (the current site of Hibbing). This unit patrolled our waters between White Earth Bay and Red Wing Harbor looking for smugglers trying to enter America illegally by boat or plane with the primary goal being stopping this activity from happening within our community! It also provided law enforcement services within our community by arresting violators of town ordinances as well as fugitives from justice who had lined up at Clearwater Marina during summer months in order to escape prosecution in other states! A few years after becoming an official part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Company N2., Twelfth Coastguard District was activated on Nov 23rd 1984 under Commander William E Kelleher Jr.. This unit patrolled our waters between White Earth Bay and Hibbing Harbour looking for smugglers trying to enter America illegally by boat or plane with a secondary goal being stopping this activity from happening within our community! It also provided law enforcement services within our community by arresting violators of town ordinances such as disorderly conduct etc.. In 1990Commander Randal W McGee activated Company P3., Thirteenth Coastguards District which became known as “ForestLake Unit” because it was located just south of where present day Hastings is located (the current site of Duluth). This unit patrolled our waters between White Earth Bay and Hibbing Harbour looking for smugglers trying to enter America illegally by boat or plane with a primary goal being stopping this activity from happening within our community! It also provides law enforcement services within our community by arresting violators both inside & outside residences through warrants issued locally & thru request for assistance thru police agencies elsewhere!!

The Coast Guard Gift History in Forest Lake, Minnesota begins with Captain Fenton who served from 1854-1881. From 1854-1881, Captain Fenton was the first officer of the Forest Lake Coast Guard. In 1886, he was transferred to Duluth and commanded the Department Store at First Avenue and Superior Street. He also served as a lieutenant colonel in the regular army during World War I and as an inspector general of military recruiting. After World War I, he resumed hisduty as captain of the Coast Guard until his retirement in 1931. From 1926-1931,Captain Fenton was a member of the State Board of Education for Minnesota.
Forest Lake is a town in Hibbing, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. Forest Lake is part of the Minneapolis-St.Paul metropolitan area and is home to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. The community was founded in 1892 by Ole Sorenson and his wife Emma. It was named after a small forest near where it was located. In 1915, Forest Lake had a post office and two stores. A sawmill opened in 1916 and the population grew to around 100 people by 1922. When Hibbing incorporated as a town in 1925, ForestLake became its first village with a store and one schoolhouse. In 1928, the Village Board established an agricultural fair which continues to be held every year today (except for 2009). In 1949, members of the Hibbing Chamber of Commerce petitioned the state legislature to allow forests within their borders so that they could be managed sustainably instead of being chopped down for lumber or used for oil production purposes like most towns in Minnesota at that time were doing at that time. The state legislature granted this request and ForestLake became one of 146 communities statewide designated as "forest villages." This designation allowed forest management decisions made by village board members to remain confidential rather than being shared with larger municipalities which would have been able to interfere with those decisions without permit from the state government. The designation also allowed for more sustainable forestry practices such as using certified harvesting methods and using longer term planning techniques than what was available at that time through traditional logging practices which resulted in increasing rates of deforestation across all states during this period
