Forest Lake is a census-designated place in Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1875 by Swedish immigrants who had come to the area during the Dakota War of 1862. ForestLake post office was established in 1877 and continued until it was discontinued in 1934. In 1916, a group of farmstead owners and farmers pooled their resources to purchase 522 acres (2 km²) of land east of town for $5,000. This became ForestLake Township with a population of just over 100 people in 1920. ForestLake School District No. 2 serves students from Forest Lake through Deerfield Hills Elementary School and Deerfield Hills Middle School. In addition to these public schools, there are two private schools: Forest Lake Academy which provides middle school education; and Maplewood Intermediate School which provides high school education for students from pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. The first day of school for fall term 2009 is September 26th!

Forest Lake is a small town in the rural county of Ramsey in the state of Minnesota. It was founded in 1872 by farmers who arrived from Iowa, and it has since grown to be a major local center for trade and manufacturing. The town's main business district is located on the north side of town, within its own boundaries. Forest Lake also features a number of smaller neighborhoods, including the rural hamlet of White Bear and the more urban enclaves of East Side Park and West Side Park. The first settlers to Forest Lake were men who had come overland from Iowa. They built their homes around what is now known as Old Fort Street, just east of the present-day border between Forest Lake and Ramsey. Over time, other families followed suit, founding homes along various routes that converged at Forest Lake. Eventually, there were so many people living in Forest Lake that it began to feel like an incorporated village. In 1872, two brothers named George and John Ladd bought some land northeast of town from some Norwegian immigrants who had been farming thereabouts for years. They set about building a sawmill and gristmill which they operated until they sold them out in 1907 to Averill Harriman & Sons (HAR), which became one of America's leading lumber companies. HAR used their mill for both production and export; products such as lumber, hay, cheese, flour etc., went all around the world before ceasing operations in 1969 when ownership passed through to SPECTRUM Lumber Co., Incorporated (now Mountaire Social Group). A few years after HAR's purchase of the mill, another company – Leavenworth Manufacturing Company – set up shop next door using some old remains from HAR's past operation as storage space. At first things looked good for Leavenworth: they managed to keep most everything running right until 1921 when an oil well system failure caused Bethlehem Steel Corporation (BEST) nearby to take over production at Leavenworth while NORTHWESTERN PRODUCTION COOPERATIVE managed deliveries for BEST! This gave BEST control over much keystone industry infrastructure back then - something that eventually led to their downfall during World War II when steel prices collapsed nationwide due largely to shortages caused by WWII munitions made with Japanese-made materials . During Prohibition times (1920-1933), several businesses closed down because Ofsted regulation made it illegal under Minnesota law To produce or sell alcoholic beverages without a license * although these establishments did manage unofficial sales via "walking" tours throughout downtown areas where alcohol could still be purchased legally
Forest Lake is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. Forest Lake was founded in 1881 by George Wickersham and his wife Anna as a log cabin community near present-day Maplewood. In 1907, Forest Lake became an incorporated town and its name changed to Ramsey County in 1912. It was renamed Forest Lake again in 1959 after being annexed into the city of Minneapolis. The original ForestLake post office operated from 1881 to 1902; it was replaced by the current post office building on Main Street in 1916. The first school in ForestLake opened in 1881, serving students from nearby Maplewood and other villages until 1905 when it became part of the new Ramsey County School District. ForestLake's second school opened on North Avenue in 1912, serving students from all of Ramsey County until it merged with the Minneapolis public school system that year. A sawmill built by George Wickersham & Sons at what is now embarrassing site east of downtown served as the town's only industry until 1914 when a lumber mill started up north on White Earth Creek just west of town and soon produced more logs than needed for local use so the mill closed down and most of its materials were exported to Canada where they were used to build warships during World War I. The old mill property also housed one early truck stop which sat across White Earth Creek from where motorists stopped for coffee before continuing their journey southward along Interstate 94 or northward towards Burnsville or Shakopee (then still a small village). In response to growing demand for homes around downtown Minneapolis resulting from changes within his hometown including advances within transportation technology which allowed greater suburban development around him since he could no longer commute daily to work there – George Wickersham decided RE/MAX would take over management of his initial forestlake community sites making all home sales through this company exclusive – becoming known as "Gone With The Wind". This change gave rise eventually to subdivision development taking place throughout much rural areas surrounding Twin Cities over time while forestlake residents continued living closer together behind fences while some brave enough ventured out onto open fields adjacent their subdivisions selling whatever they produced (eager not having fences between them anymore). Regardless many people who had originally bought into original developer's vision eventually sold their lots back once developments began popping up right next door due largely to lack thereof any zoning restrictions preventing such growth leading developers accordingly rezoning several parcels allowing even more housing units despite protests etcetera although never achieving approval given overwhelming opposition – becoming what we know today as 'Rental City'.
