In 1902, they organized what became the Town of Marshall, Incorporated with David O'Neill as its first mayor who served until 1916 when he became Mayor of Minneapolis. The town had an annual budget of $611 but spent only $122 in 2006 due to tight government spending cuts during the Great Recession. Marshall is located at (44.580547, -93.627483). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. As of 2010,[1] there were 1,982 people living in Marshalltown according to the 2000 U .S . Census[2] As of 2009[3], there were 1,853 people living in Marshalltown according to figures from the USGS.[4] As of 2009[3], there were also 281 households out of which 36% had children under age 18 living with them,[5] 50% were married couples living together,[6] and 33% had a female householder with no husband present.[7] There are also 20 single family homes (or “ponds”) scattered throughout Marshaltown that have been abandoned or used for storage over time; these ponds have not been counted as part of this population figure since it includes any housing developments that may have sprung up around them over time

Marshall, Minnesota is a small town in the extreme southcentral corner of Minnesota. The population was 1,664 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The Marshall area was first settled by Norwegian immigrants in 1854. In 1870, a group of Englishmen founded the village of Marshall on a tract of land donated by President Ulysses S. Grant. They renamed it after General Winfield Scott's army unit, the Third Illinois Infantry Regiment (Cavalry). The town site was surveyed in 1871 and platted in 1872. A post office was established at Marshall in 1876 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1913. In 1907, an addition to the city limits were made to include what is now downtown Marshall and much of north side Minneapolis. This occurred as part of a general plan for expanded city boundaries that included all or most of downtown Minneapolis and other populous areas including St Cloud, Plymouth, Alexandria Park and Falcon Heights/Winchester Hills
Marshall was a town in the county of St. Croix in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It was founded by Norwegian immigrants, and merged with nearby Leslie on January 1, 1881 to form the new town of Marshall-Leslie.
