High-quality coffee has been a part of the North Branch community for many years. The first coffee house in North Branch was built on Main Street in 1885. The business changed hands several times before it settled into its current location, which is now the Park Coffee House. In 1916, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bohan started brewing their own coffee and selling it at their home on Main Street. Park Coffeehouse became one of the most popular shopping destinations in town and provided a place where people could come to purchase fresh roasted coffee beans and tea. In 1919, Mr. Bohan passed away and his wife continued running the business until her death in 1984. AfterMrsBohan's death, the business passed down to her son John who operated it until 1994 when it was purchased by Dennis Olson from original owner Larry Hoferman. Dennis Olson turned the business over to his daughter Christin Olson who operated it until 2007 when she sold it to Rich Kunschler who operates it today as Park Coffee House North Branch . North Branch, Minnesota is a small town in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2000 census. North Branch is located on the north bank of the Saint Anthony River. It began as a log settlement in 1857 and became a small town in 1909. The name "North Branch" comes from the forks of the Saint Anthony River which flow through it. The first settlers in what is now North Branch were white men who came to this area from Illinois in 1847. They built a cabin on the banks of the river and called it "Hennepin." In 1857, James Waugh settled near where Hennepin now stands and called his land "Waugh's Ferry". A post office was established at Waugh's Ferry in 1861, and until it was discontinued in 1907, mail was delivered there by boat from Minneapolis. In 1909, North Branch became a incorporated town after being selected for adoption by the city council of Minneapolis. On July 20 that year, Mayor JF Smithers proclaimed that North Branch would be “the most important center within our borders for culture and trade” because of its location just south of downtown on State Street between First Avenue and Nicollet Avenue. The nucleus of today’s community likely sprang up around Waugh’s Ferry when traders started coming downriver to sell goods they had acquired along their trips upriver to Duluth or Superior (now Green Bay). Gossip among these early pioneers about new arrivals spread like wildfire; soon everyone knew all about each other’s families and businesses back home in Illinois! By 1860-61 there must have been over 100 residents living at Waugh’s Ferry according to one estimate - including some naturalizedAmericans! In 1865 Amos Eaton set up shop as an onion farmer on Big Lake just east of present day North Branch; he operated until his death circa 1924. George Ducharme also operated an agricultural business hereabouts during this time frame before moving southwest into rural southwestern Minnesota..
