The richfield coffee community has been brewing coffee for over a hundred years. The first recorded cup of coffee was brewed by Ignatius Donnelly in 1867. The Donnelly family continued to produce quality beans until the early 1900s, when a new company began manufacturing coffee in Richfield. In 1916, the company name was changed to Dutch Bros. Coffee and it would stay that way until 1954, when the business merged with another local company and became Dutch Bros., Ltd. In 1970, Dutch Bros., Ltd. merged with American Coffee Co., Inc., which continues to make and sell quality coffee today. Dutch Bros., Ltd.'s production facilities were located on the southeast side of town, near what is now known as Woolworth Park. This location allowed them to ship their beans all over the United States, helping contribute to their wide popularity across North America. The company also sold its products through retail channels such as convenience stores and department stores throughout the Midwest and West Coast of America. During its long history, Dutch Bros., Ltd.'s mission has always been to provide quality coffee at an affordable price point for everyone in our community. Today, we continue this tradition by providing our customers with fresh-made espresso or drip coffee every morning from our own roasted bean inventory right here in Richfield!

In Richfield, coffee started being brewed in small batches in the late 1800s. The first coffee shop in town was opened by a man named Johnathan at the corner of Ninth and Harrison Streets in 1891. By 1912, coffee shops had started popping up all over Richfield. The first store to open on North Seventh Street was called The Star Inn and it served coffee from a small pot known as a "bottega". The popularity of local roasting has contributed to the rich flavor profile that we enjoy today.

Richfield is a small town in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, located in the central region of Minnesota. According to the 2010 census, the population was 8,946. The name "Richfield" comes from a title given to pioneer settlers by Governor Jesse P. Ramsey: " Richfield Township and Range." The community began as a rough aggregation of tents on the edge of a swamp near what is now Uptown Minneapolis in 1858. By 1860, it had grown into a small farming village with 1 store and 35 residents. In 1868, Richfield became part of Hennepin County when it was organized from parts of Dakota Territory. From its early days as an agricultural center, Richfield developed into an important transportation hub due to its location within easy driving distance of both Minneapolis and St. Paul. It also served as headquarters for several companies that contributed to early Minnesota industry such as the Pioneer National Bank and First National Bank (later Chase Manhattan). During World War II, Richfield played an important role as one of five United States military airfields servicing all points northward along I-35W, including Minneapolis and Saint Paul; this allowed American forces to reach targets much closer than they would otherwise have been able to without having to go through Great Lakes Cities or major airports like Chicago or Denver. After the war ended, Richfeld continued its role as an aviation center until being replaced by Cedar Rapids in 1991; however, portions of Richfeld remain active today with various businesses providing shopping experiences at various locations around town while still serving as home to many local residents who work in downtown StPaul or outside of town altogether. This allows for a higher quality product that is also less environmentally friendly. Secondly, smaller batches often produce a more consistent flavor than larger batches due to the smaller amount of variability in roast time and water temperature. Lastly, because small batches are made from specific origins and varieties of beans, they offer a unique flavor experience that cannot be found with larger batches of same variety packaged together.
