Sartell is a small town in Minnesota, located about 25 miles west of Minneapolis. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest community in Minnesota and the only one in Dakota County. Sartell is named after Edwin Sarton, an early settler. The first settlers to Sartell were white men from North Dakota who arrived during the mid-19th century. They built a log cabin on what is now Main Street and began trading with Indians for goods and services. In 1875, they erected a schoolhouse on land donated by Jethro Gibbs. A post office was established in 1876, and soon there were several businesses in operation including a mill, grocery store, blacksmith shop, livery stable and telephone company. In 1906, ownership of the telephone company passed from individuals to Minnesota Rural Telephone Company (MRTC). MRTC converted two rural stations into commercial radio outlets which became known as "Sartell Radio Station No. 2" and "Sartell Radio Station No." In 1925, MRTC merged with American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T) to formMinnesota Western Electric Company (MWEC). MWEC continued to operate multiple radio stations until it was dismantled by AT&T in 1990. Today there are just four buildings remaining from when Sartell had over fifty businesses: school building (1906), post office (1876), gymnasium/ Recreational Hall (1925), and Administration Building (1990). The elementary schools have been replaced by high schools; but all original infrastructure has been preserved including the water pump that supplied drinking water to residents until 1975; streetlights dating back to 1926; fire hydrants dating back to 1932;and electrician’s tools dating back to 1916

Coffeehouses started to proliferate throughout Europe during the 1800s and 1900s; however, they were often small and unpretentious affairs with poor lighting and limited seating options.
