Air Force Deployed Gift History in St. Cloud, Minnesota began with the establishment of the Air Force Reserve in 1947. The Air Force Reserve was created as a result of the National Security Act of 1947 which authorized the President to call up all reserve troops for military service during times of war. The Air Force Reserve enlisted men and women from all over the United States and Canada to serve in their capacities as reservists. In 1951, the Air Force activated its first Regular Army unit and began providing gift services to airmen stationed overseas. From 1951-1970, gifts were given to members of the USAF by spouses/family members stationed at home or abroad. Additionally, numerous special occasions such as Christmas, Easter, and Father’s Day were celebrated with gifts given by members of the USAF Reserve or their families. In 1973, gift gifting became a routine part of RAFG (The Red Ensign) program which honored RAF personnel who had made an extraordinary contribution to society or wartime aviation through various activities including flying missions over Europe or Japan; conducting experiments; or being an important member of RAFG units that flew into combat during World War II or Korea. RAFG is also known as The Golden Age of Aviation and continues today when contributions are made through Specialty Squadron programs such as The Pipers Project which honors individuals who have donated time and effort towards aircraft restoration within our lineage-based squadron program; Heritage Flight which allows active duty members to experience flyings associated with WWI era bomber groups flown out by our museum staff; and numerous others throughout our organization that continue honoring those who have helped make our community one strong voice for aviation history! Since 1973, AFBG hasSponsored more than 375 events that bring together community partners from across St Cloud County - everything from golf tournaments to family fun days - giving back something unique each time! Our mission is simple: To support amazing local businesses while connecting people with great causes – whether it’s helping feed hungry children in school or supporting cancer research! The United States Air Force deployment of the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker fuel tanker plane is a significant event in USAF history. The KC-135 refueling mission is one of the most hazardous and time consuming in USAF Operation Overleaf. The Stratotanker has the ability to fly at high altitudes for long periods of time, providing a safe and reliable way to extend air support into areas that are too dangerous or difficult for fighter jets to reach. This unique aircraft is essential for USAF operations in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
The Minnesota Air National Guard's 321st Airlift Squadron (321 AS) is responsible for the deployment of military gifts and accessories to units and individuals in the state. This squadron flies C-130 aircraft and provides airlift support to a variety of needs, including disaster relief, community service, education, and more. The 321st Airlift Squadron has a long history of providing airlift support to special events in St. Cloud. For example, in 1996, the squadron transported personnel and supplies to the Western State Fair. In 2002, they flew humanitarian aid to tornado-stricken Oklahoma City. In 2006, they transported goods and supplies to assist with reconstruction after Hurricane Katrina. In 2013, the squadron delivered gifts for Easter at Hennepin County Faith Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. In 2017, they transported items for Christmas at Pioneer Lutheran Church in Duluth.

The United States Air Force has a long history of deploying gifts to support its troops and allies. One of the most famous air force gifts is the Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. The C-130 was designed as a mediumlift cargo plane that could fly long distances, supported by an airbase or missile launch site. It was first flown in 1947 and became popular among NATO countries. The United States Air Force also donated two Boeing 727s to be used by the Saudi Arabian Air Force. These planes were used for transport and reconnaissance purposes. The Saudis were very grateful for the gift and they continue to use them today. In 2001, the United StatesAir Force donated two F-16 Fighting Falcons to the Jordanian Air Force. These jets were used for fighter training and operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. In recent years, the United States Air Force has been gifting more than just transports and fighter jets. In 1849, the first Methodist church was built in St. Cloud. The townspeople built a school and jail in 1861. In 1870, the town got its start as a railroad town with the opening of the Minnesota Central Railroad. The community continued to grow until it had over 100 residents by 1915.
